[Remote] Principal Generative AI Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Taxwell is a leading digital tax filing platform formed in 2022 from the combination of Drake Software® and TaxAct®. They are seeking a Principal Generative AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy production-grade LLM-powered systems, focusing on scalable generative AI capabilities for internal tools and customer-facing products.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement LLM-powered applications supporting internal workflows and customer-facing features
- Build and optimize retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines grounded in proprietary documentation and structured data
- Develop agent-based and workflow-driven systems using frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, ADK, or similar
- Develop and fine-tune AI models to support autonomous agent workflows and business applications
- Implement prompt strategies, tool-calling workflows, and structured output generation
- Contribute to shared AI infrastructure including embeddings, vector search, evaluation tooling, caching, and monitoring
- Partner with DevOps and platform teams to deploy scalable services in AWS
- Measure system performance using telemetry, experimentation, and user feedback
Skills
- 5–8+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years building and deploying LLM-powered or RAG-based systems in production
- Experience fine-tuning and optimizing large language models (LLMs) and domain-specific AI models using supervised fine-tuning (SFT), reinforcement learning techniques, and parameter-efficient methods (e.g., LoRA, QLoRA) to improve accuracy, reasoning, and task-specific performance for agentic AI applications
- Hands-on experience with embeddings, vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Chroma, FAISS), and retrieval pipelines
- Experience building agent workflows and integrating LLM APIs
- Proficiency in Python or TypeScript
- Experience deploying systems in AWS environments
- Strong debugging and systems thinking skills
- Experience implementing evaluation frameworks (e.g., LangSmith)
- Experience optimizing latency and token cost
- Exposure to regulated industries (fintech, tax, healthcare)
- Experience fine-tuning or adapting open-weight LLMs
