Job Overview

We are looking for a part-time Russian Language Lecturer to teach five lower division Russian language courses and two upper division heritage Russian language courses during the 2023-24 academic year. The ideal candidate should be a native or near-native speaker of Russian, trained in foreign language pedagogy, and familiar with the textbooks and online coursework used as the foundation for the Elementary Russian sequence taught at UCLA. Key Responsibilities

  • Teach five lower division Russian language courses and two upper division heritage Russian language courses during the 2023-24 academic year
  • Develop and implement engaging and effective lesson plans, using a variety of teaching methods and materials
  • Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback to help students achieve their language learning goals
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of the Russian language program
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in foreign language pedagogy and apply this knowledge to improve teaching practices
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress, and submit reports as required

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should meet the following basic qualifications:

  • Hold at minimum a M.A. (or M.A. equivalent) in Russian language and literature, and preferably a Ph.D.
  • Be a native or near-native speaker of Russian, with excellent communication and teaching skills
  • Have experience in teaching Russian language at the university level, preferably in the United States
  • Be familiar with the textbooks and online coursework used as the foundation for the Elementary Russian sequence taught at UCLA
  • Have a strong commitment to academic excellence, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching heritage Russian language courses
  • Knowledge of language learning technologies and online platforms
  • Experience in developing and assessing language proficiency tests
