Reading Partners is a national literacy nonprofit organization dedicated to helping elementary-aged students become proficient readers. We're on a mission to engage community volunteers and AmeriCorps service members to support students on their path toward reading proficiency. As an AmeriCorps Program Coordinator with Reading Partners in Seattle, you'll be at the forefront of our efforts, leading the coordination, operations, and relationship development of our one-on-one tutoring programs in elementary schools.

About the Role

The AmeriCorps Program Coordinator is a full-time, remote-based position available for immediate start, serving from January 2024 to June 2024, with a commitment to a service term of 900+ hours. As the face of Reading Partners in our partner schools, you'll be responsible for ensuring the success of our tutoring programs, managing day-to-day operations, and fostering positive relationships with students, families, tutors, and school staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full-time coordination and operations of Reading Partners' tutoring programs at a school partner, ensuring the program meets students' learning needs.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations and schedule of Reading Partners' tutoring programs.
  • Provide ongoing tutoring to students and manage student and tutor data records, tracking student progress.
  • Offer direct technical support to students and volunteers when using Reading Partners' online tutoring program.
  • Forge and maintain positive relationships with students, families, tutors, and school staff to create a welcoming tutoring environment.
  • Lead family, student, and volunteer engagement support within your reading center.
  • Motivate students in their learning journeys and manage student behavior.
  • Guide, coach, and provide feedback and ongoing support to volunteer tutors.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • US Citizenship, Permanent Resident Status, or US National status.
  • No more than three (3) prior AmeriCorps or VISTA service terms completed.
  • A strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Openness to learning technology systems like Salesforce, Google Apps, and Zoom Conferencing.

Preferred Qualifications

Bonus points if you:

  • Are an AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, or other national service alum/alumna.
  • Have experience volunteering with community-based or education programs.
