About the Role

The Staff Data Engineer will play a critical role in scaling DoorDash's data infrastructure, automation, and tools to meet the company's growing business needs. As a technical expert, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and external partners, to design, develop, and implement large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data models and pipelines for DoorDash's Data Lake and Data Warehouse. Your expertise will help build reusable frameworks that improve the reliability and flexibility of DoorDash's ETLs, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, reliable data to stakeholders across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to understand data requirements and develop solutions that meet business needs
  • Work with engineering, product, and external partners to gather required data and design, develop, and implement data models and pipelines
  • Build and maintain large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data pipelines and architectures for DoorDash's Data Lake and Data Warehouse
  • Develop and implement reusable frameworks that improve the reliability and flexibility of DoorDash's ETLs
  • Manage a portfolio of data products that deliver high-quality, reliable data to stakeholders across the organization
  • Mentor and coach colleagues to improve their design and implementation skills

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering, business intelligence, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience working with programming languages like Python/Java
  • 3+ years of experience with ETL tools and workflow management tools like Airflow, Flink, Oozie, and Azkaban using AWS/GCP
  • Expertise in database fundamentals, SQL, and distributed computing
  • 3+ years of experience working with distributed data ecosystems (e.g., Hadoop, Hive, Druid, Voila) and streaming technologies like Kafka/Flink
  • Experience working with Snowflake, Redshift, PostgreSQL, and other DBMS platforms
  • Knowledge of reporting tools like Tableau, Superset, and Looker
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with technical and non-technical teams
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, self-motivated, and self-organizing
  • Capacity to think strategically, analyze, and interpret market and customer data

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms and technologies
  • Knowledge of data governance and data quality best practices
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems like Git
  • Strong understanding of data security and compliance principles
