Your impact

As an AI Tutor focused on Environmental Science, you’ll contribute to building AI that understands climate data, sustainability topics, and ecological systems. Your domain knowledge will ensure that AI outputs in environmental contexts are scientifically sound and data-driven.

This is a contract remote position with variable time commitments. The services to be provided by the Contractor under this agreement are supplementary and not integral to the Handshake’s primary business operations. The Contractor’s services are distinct and separate from the core business activities of Handshake.

Your role

• Evaluate environmental science-related content and feedback from AI trainers.

• Ensure alignment with real-world scientific principles and data.

• Provide expert input on climate science, ecosystems, and policy-oriented topics.

• Work with cross-functional teams to enhance annotation tools.

• Adapt quickly to new domains and content formats.

Your experience

• PhD (or ABD) in Environmental Science, Ecology, Earth Science, or a related discipline.

• Skilled in technical writing and scientific communication.

• Strong analytical and systems-level thinking.

• Passion for climate innovation and technological impact.

• Familiarity with environmental datasets and modeling is a plus.

Bonus areas of expertise

• Research experience with published work in a reputable journal.

• Previous AI tutoring experience.

• Teaching experience (professor, teacher, or tutor).

• Experience in technical writing, journalism, or professional writing.

Additional Requirements

• Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

• Ability to quickly adapt to new skills and evolving requirements.

• Personal device must support Windows 10 or macOS Big Sur 11.0 or later.

• Reliable access to a smartphone.

Location & Work Expectations

• Fully remote position.

• Not hiring in Wyoming or Illinois at this time.

Compensation range

• $55/hr - $100/hr

For cash compensation, we set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. In order to be compliant with local legislation, as well as to provide greater transparency to candidates, we share salary ranges on all job postings regardless of desired hiring location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
