The AWS EC2 Virtual Private Cloud team is at the forefront of revolutionizing cloud infrastructure, currently focused on re-engineering the VPC distribution plane to achieve performance comparable to on-premise bare metal solutions. At its core, the team is dedicated to developing sophisticated software-defined networks at scale, enabling customers to build secure, scalable, and highly available VPC environments. Engineers in this role will work extensively with modern programming languages, primarily utilizing Java and Rust for core application development, while leveraging Ruby and Python for automation tasks. The position involves building high-performance, low-latency backend systems using advanced database technologies such as Redis, JournalDB, and RocksDB, alongside proprietary Amazon tools. Team members will be deeply involved in the complete software development lifecycle, from architectural design to testing and deployment of features that impact millions of customers worldwide. The role requires expertise in developing specialized security solutions for cloud services, ensuring robust protection for customer workloads while maintaining seamless integration with other AWS services like S3 and EC2. Engineers will contribute to creating foundational services that underpin the fabric of the EC2 cloud that enable customers to manage their VPC infrastructure effectively. Technical challenges include optimizing service performance, enhancing scalability, and maintaining high availability. The team operates in an environment that encourages innovation and technical growth, with opportunities to work on complex problems that directly impact how businesses operate in the cloud. The position offers exposure to a broad spectrum of technologies and the chance to shape the future of cloud networking infrastructure at AWS. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
