OVERVIEW S&B’s Manager of Communications plays a key role in advancing the Company’s internal and external communications strategy as a leading full-service EPC provider. Working closely with executives and key stakeholders, this position will help lead, plan and execute effective internal communications to inform and engage S&B’s employees across multiple locations and regions, ranging from employee townhalls and internal newsletters to execution of employee engagement events. This role also helps to develop, plan and execute S&B’s annual media relations and social media strategy with a focus on increasing S&B’s brand awareness and recognition in key local markets where we serve clients. Based at our Houston headquarters location, the position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications and manages a team of two communications professionals, along with external agency partners. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Will supervise two communications professionals in addition to outside agency partners. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: • 10+ years of progressive experience in communications and public relations roles, with previous experience in corporate communications for energy, oil and gas, or EPC industries strongly preferred. • 7+ years of experience working with senior management and key stakeholders to lead integrated communications plans across a wide range of formats (print, digital, portal, email, video). • 3+ years of experience managing both direct reports as well as external agency partners. • Prior experience with direct budget management and experience overseeing the research and implementation of new communications tools and platforms to drive engagement and desired business outcomes. • Proven ability to develop compelling corporate communications programs that are engaging and authentic to Company’s mission, values, and brand proposition. Prior experience developing annual communications plan and implementing a compelling key message strategy across multiple channels. • Excellent written and verbal communications, as well as outstanding copywriting and proofreading skills. Must be well versed with Associated Press style. • Self-motivated, energetic and creative thinker capable of identifying new ideas and strategies aligned with annual business goals. • Strong organizational/project management skills, with proven experience leading large, complex projects in the communications/marketing realm. • Excels in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Must have ability to set realistic, yet timely deadlines and execute on plan. • Previous experience managing a wide range of internal communications platforms and tools, such as Teams Live, Portal CMS, Alert Media, email platforms, etc. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Management & Communications Planning • Assists in development and execution of S&B’s annual Internal/External Communications plan. Participates and helps lead content and department planning of corporate communications projects and initiatives. • Administers routine communications assessments and establishes processes to evaluate, refine and further advance S&B’s communications approach. • Manages and oversees content and project calendars to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner. Internal Communications & Events • In conjunction with the team, work with both internal and external customers/stakeholders and agency partners to develop content aligned with S&B’s brand promise, key messaging and overall objectives. • Manage S&B’s internal communications channels and related tools/platforms, such as: MyS&B Portal, S&B TV, PoliteMail and future email platforms. • Manage day-to-day administration of newsletters and written/video announcements. Support the planning and logistics for employee town halls and leadership events and oversee quarterly employee engagement events to drive and support a strong company culture. Corporate Communications & Social Media • Support a wide range of corporate communications initiatives, including crisis communications and media relations. • Develop and maintain S&B’s LinkedIn content strategy to ensure timely and meaningful content that positions S&B as a leading EPC provider. • Support other Marketing and Communications initiatives as required. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Excellent communication skills are essential for this position. In addition to the qualifications already identified, the ability to read, analyze and interpret policies, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical bulletins, and government regulations is a plus for this role. The ability to write reports and business correspondence is also a requirement as is the ability to effectively deliver oral presentations and to respond to questions from groups of managers, engineers, clients, and suppliers. Job success often hinges upon interpersonal communication and relationship development skills, and job tasks require frequent interchange, and successful completion depends in large part upon effective interaction and communication with others. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Position requires the ability to effectively manage and track ongoing marketing, communications and events budgets in addition to key analytics to accurately report on employee engagement, event and marketing and communications outcomes. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires the ability to hear normal conversation, see near objects and speak clearly. Occasionally may participate in a field trip to a job site which requires the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance. Lifting up to 25 pounds unassisted may be required. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Most work performed in office environment with hybrid schedule. Research and development may require travel. Must be able to balance the demands of competing workloads to achieve deadlines and priorities.
