About Us:

CALSTART is a mission-driven industry organization focused on transportation decarbonization and clean air for all.

For over 30 years, it’s been CALSTART’s mission to develop, assess, and implement large-scale, zero-emission transportation solutions to mitigate climate change and support economic growth. CALSTART works with businesses, organizations, governments, and communities to create real-life impact toward clean air and equitable access to clean transportation for all. CALSTART provides scientific, technical and policy support for regulatory development and clean technology and infrastructure acceleration.

About the Role:

CALSTART is looking for an Innovative Mobility Program Manager to coordinate across all CALSTART initiatives, activities, and regional offices to enable the organization to multiply the value of existing investments and identify new opportunities to break down barriers to systemic change in the clean transportation industry. This position will also engage with key external stakeholders, including transit agencies, school districts, local governments, funding sponsors, and solution providers to achieve shared goals of mode shift and vehicle miles traveled reductions.

CALSTART's Innovative Mobility initiative strives to implement programs and resources that make the lightest-footprint modes competitive with traditional means of moving people and goods. This is achieved through the focus areas of personal mobility, school mobility, and last-mile delivery. The Innovative Mobility work is growing, and the Program Manager will manage a robust portfolio of projects across the three focus areas, including new grant awards replicating successful project models. The Program Manager will lead with a passion and grounding for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in transportation. The Program Manager will oversee the National Innovative Mobility Working Group and work closely with the Clean Mobility Options program team to advance equity-based mobility solutions beyond California.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Manage CALSTART's National Innovative Mobility Working Group, a consortium of stakeholders advancing better mobility options to reduce climate impacts. This includes stakeholder engagement, member recruitment, agenda setting, and working group deliverables.
  • Lead a portfolio of innovative mobility projects across the three focus areas: personal mobility, school mobility, and last-mile deliveries.
  • Lead the development of new proposals, including establishing partnerships, generating new concepts, and budgeting.
  • Support the ongoing evolution of the Innovative Mobility strategy to grow the initiative's business pursuits and membership base.
  • Promote the value of mobility projects through speaking opportunities and publications.
  • What You Bring to the Table

  • 5-7 years of direct or transferrable professional experience
  • 5+ years of experience working in clean transportation, with a focus on active and shared modes preferred
  • Experience with grassroots community engagement for transportation, mobility, affordable housing, land use, and/or environmental justice
  • Experience with project management, proposal development, and budgeting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Planning, Civil Engineering, Policy, or related field of study
  • Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or other advanced degree in a relevant field
  • Certifications: PMP, AICP
  • Experience in non-profit business development
  • Experience with both personal mobility and goods movement projects
  • Background in Human-centered design (HCD) principles and applications is a plus
  • Knowledge of advanced transportation technologies, including automated vehicles and curbside management
  • CALSTART values transparency and strives to provide as much information regarding compensation as possible. The complete salary range for this role is $95,000 - $113,000 per year. We determine pay based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, education, internal equity and other factors relevant to the job.
