Criminal Defense Paralegal

We are currently seeking a Criminal Defense Paralegal to join our US-based law firm client. The ideal candidate will possess substantial knowledge and experience in criminal law and will assist attorneys in various stages of criminal defense cases.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys in preparing for trials, hearings, and client meetings by organizing case files and conducting legal research.
• Draft legal documents, pleadings, motions, and correspondence relevant to criminal defense cases.
• Review and summarize police reports, witness statements, and other evidence to prepare for case analysis.
• Manage and maintain the office's case management system, ensuring all documents are filed and organized appropriately.
• Communicate with clients, witnesses, and experts as needed to gather information or schedule meetings.
• Assist in trial preparation by organizing exhibits, witness lists, and trial materials.
• Conduct legal research to assist attorneys in case strategy and development.
• Assist with case management, billing, and invoicing as necessary.

Requirements

• An Associate's degree or comparable experience in a legal environment.
• A minimum of 2-3 years' experience as a paralegal, particularly in the field of criminal defense.
• In-depth knowledge of criminal law and relevant legal terminology.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
• Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research applications.
• Strong organizational capabilities and meticulous attention to detail.
• Proficient in English.
• Familiarity with US criminal law at both state and federal levels.
• At least one year of experience in a law office.
• Effective writing skills.
• Experience with CLIO Manage software is advantageous.
• Customer service skills.
• Capability to perform under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
• Experience with case management software is a PLUS
