Trauma Nurse Abstractor

About the position The Trauma Nurse Abstractor position at Vista Innovative Solutions (VIS) involves supporting the Registry Clinical Data Support Team by collecting and abstracting comprehensive data related to trauma patients. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate data entry and coding of injuries and procedures, specifically using ICD-9/10 codes, while maintaining high accuracy rates. The position is remote, but candidates must be Texas residents. Responsibilities • Collect comprehensive, accurate data relating to registry patients by abstracting all trajectories of care. , • Verify and update all information compiled and enter data into the Registry in a timely manner. , • Perform coding of injuries, procedures, and causes of injuries using standard medical record references, specifically ICD-9/10 codes. , • Assign diagnoses AIS and ICD-9/10-CM codes, and complete ISS and other trauma score calculations for an average of 120 role of care records per week, maintaining a 90% Accuracy Rate. , • Utilize Abstracting Business Rules as described in data abstraction resources. , • Provide education and consultation to the AHI/TBI/DoDTR Registry and clinical subject matter experts (SME) to Joint Trauma System personnel and customers. , • Provide training activities specific to clinical abstraction, coding, and business rules for new and existing employees. , • Conduct quality assurance evaluations for clinical accuracy of Registry data at all Roles for Care, maintaining a 90% Accuracy Rate as directed. , • Conduct Registry Consents as required. Requirements • Minimum of five (5) consecutive years of nursing experience. , • At least three (3) years' experience as a critical care nurse in a critical care unit, trauma unit, emergency department, or inpatient operating room. , • Experience with medical records, coding, medical data entry, and medical system design. , • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nursing. , • United States Registered Nurse (RN) license. , • Proof of immunization for TB Test; Hepatitis B vaccine, titer, or waiver; Tetanus booster within the last 5 years; and HIV titer. Nice-to-haves • Previous Trauma Nursing experience. , • Military nursing experience is desired. , • Experience with ICD-9 Coding and previous work as a medical abstractor.
