Contract Clinical Mental Health Therapist

Position Overview We are seeking a licensed mental health clinician to join our practice as an Independent Contractor (1099). In this role, you will provide individual psychotherapy to clients through telehealth, working autonomously with the support of our practice infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity for a therapist looking for flexibility while being part of a collaborative clinical community.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters in Counseling Licensure (Required) Must hold one of the following active, unrestricted licenses in the state of North Carolina:

• Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC)
• Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA)
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA)

Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of experience providing direct clinical mental health services
• Demonstrated experience providing individual psychotherapy (not solely assessments or evaluations)
• Proven ability to maintain a caseload independently and manage clinical documentation

Technical & Workspace Requirements

• Familiarity with SimplePractice or comparable EHR/practice management platforms (ex., TherapyNotes, Jane App, etc)
• Access to a quiet, private, HIPAA-compliant workspace free from interruptions during sessions
• Reliable high-speed internet connection and a device suitable for telehealth sessions
• Ability to maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation

Schedule & Availability This is a part-time, flexible contract position. The minimum availability expectation is:

• 3–5 client hours per week (with room to grow your caseload as desired)
• Availability to hold a consistent weekly schedule that clients can rely on
• Timely response to client communications and practice administrative requests

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide individual psychotherapy services via HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform
• Conduct intake assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical notes, treatment plans, and progress documentation within the EHR
• Coordinate care with other providers when clinically appropriate
• Adhere to ethical standards set forth by your licensing board (NCBLCMHC or NCSSWB)
• Participate in peer consultation or group meetings as scheduled by the practice
• Maintain current professional liability (malpractice) insurance

Compensation & Contract Terms

• Independent Contractor (1099); not an employee position
• Competitive set rate per session (specific rate discussed during interview)
• Flexible scheduling; you set your own hours and caseload size
• Credentialing support; we assist with insurance credentialing under our group practice
• Access to practice EHR, billing infrastructure, and administrative support
• No non-compete clause

Important Disclosures As a 1099 contractor, you are responsible for:

• Your own taxes (self-employment tax, quarterly estimated payments, etc.)
• Maintaining your professional license in good standing
• Carrying your own professional liability/malpractice insurance
• Completing required continuing education for licensure renewal
• Compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, including HIPAA
