Researcher, Podcast [Temporary, Remote]
Role: Researcher, Podcast [Temporary] Rate: $35-$55 per hour -or- Flat Rate per Episode Location: Los Angeles, CA or Remote Overview: Higher Ground is seeking a sharp and thorough Researcher to support editorial development across our podcast slate. The Researcher will play a key role in preparing production teams and hosts for interviews, developing story ideas, and ensuring the accuracy and depth of each episode's content. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, highly organized, and able to quickly synthesize complex information across a wide range of topics — from politics and policy to culture, business, and personal narrative. Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive background research on guests, topics, and story angles in advance of interviews and recording sessions Develop detailed research briefs and interview preparation materials for hosts and producers Fact-check episode content and flagging inaccuracies or gaps prior to publication Identify potential guests, expert sources, and contributors relevant to editorial priorities Maintain organized research files and documentation within shared project systems Collaborate closely with producers and creative leads to understand the editorial direction of each show and tailor research accordingly Stay current on relevant news, cultural moments, and emerging topics that could inform the editorial calendar Requirements: Proven research experience in a journalism, documentary, podcast, or editorial production context Strong analytical and writing skills; ability to synthesize and communicate complex information clearly and concisely Comfort working across a wide range of subjects and adapting quickly to new topics Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to factual accuracy Experience with research tools, databases, and open-source reporting methods Proficiency with Google Suite; familiarity with Airtable is a plus Ability to manage multiple research projects simultaneously and deliver on tight deadlines Discretion and good editorial judgment when handling sensitive subject matter About Higher Ground: Founded by Barack and Michelle Obama in 2018, Higher Ground is the home of exciting and impactful storytelling from Oscar-winning films to blockbuster podcasts.
