Education and Psychology LibrarianIowa City, Iowa, United StatesNewLibrary Sciences25005629The University of Iowa Libraries intends to hire for one position at either the Specialist Librarian classification (PLB2/4A), or the Expert Librarian classification (PLB3/5A), based on the qualifications of the successful candidate.The University of Iowa Libraries is seeking a collaborative and service-oriented Education and Psychology Librarian to join our Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) Department. Reporting to the Director of HSS, this librarian will serve as the primary liaison to the College of Education and the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. In this role, the librarian will support the research, teaching, and learning needs of faculty and students across these disciplines and related programs.The librarian will be responsible for collection development, research consultations, and instructional services, all designed to foster academic success and engagement within the university community. In addition to subject-specific responsibilities, the librarian will contribute to general reference services at the Main Library, including support for government publications. They will also participate in library-wide initiatives and develops programming that enhances the Libraries’ role within the broader University community.Key Areas of Responsibilities and Job DutiesInstruction, Consultation, and Research ServicesProvide instruction and outreach to undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty, in the College of Education and Psychological and Brain Sciences.Conduct sessions for graduate-level students on topics related to literature reviews, citation management, academic publishing, evidence synthesis, and literature searching Support the academic curriculum by creating asynchronous materials such as just-in-time instructional videos, LibGuides, worksheets, and tutorials.Support student researchers through research consultations both via Zoom and in-person.Provide expert guidance for faculty and graduate students on evidence synthesis methods including systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and others.Contribute to the Humanities and Social Sciences department by providing virtual and in-person general reference services.Select, Acquire, Organize, Preserve, and Provide Information Resources and ServicesManage the collections for Education and Psychological and Brain Sciences, including purchasing/selection, deselection, format maintenance, assessment, and cancellations.Communicate transparently with faculty regarding collections decisions and changes.Manage children’s and young adult book collections and promote collection through integration with course curriculum and book displays.Leadership/Staff and Resource Management/Financial ResponsibilityManage disciplinary budgets by aligning resource allocations with academic priorities and curricular needs.Develop effective and productive relationships with campus units, professional colleagues, vendors, community groups, and/or other appropriate partners.Assist in strategic planning at the unit or department level; collaborate to implement strategic vision and goals.Continuous Learning & Skills DevelopmentSeek out new learning opportunities based on the needs and direction of the departments.Engage with the professional literature and attend events such as webinars, workshops, and conferences.Attend institutes and other specialized learning courses that pertain to skills development (i.e. Evidence Synthesis Institute).Professional ContributionsContribute to the profession through service, research, publishing, and/or teaching.Participate in and contribute to relevant Libraries and university-wide activities and committees.QualificationsRequired EducationMaster’s degree from an American Libraries Association (ALA) accredited program or international equivalent.Required QualificationsExperienceTo be appointed at the Specialist Librarian classification (PLB2/4A) At least two years of relevant experience working in an academic library.To be appointed at the Expert Librarian classification (PLB3/5A) At least four years of relevant experience working in an academic library.Ability to work independently and with others in a demanding and rapidly changing environment where flexibility, collaboration, consultation, and cooperation are essential.Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, evidence of strong written and oral communication skills.Demonstrated interest in professional development that will enhance the candidate’s value to the Libraries, the University, and the profession.Demonstrated ability to support a welcoming and respectful environment in a job-related experience, an academic setting, and/or the community.Desired QualificationsAdvanced degree in Education, behavioral sciences, or social sciences.Experiencewith collection development, including collection assessment and budgeting.Experienceteaching in a library or academic setting.E Apply To This Job
