Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Remote Data Engineer to join the Data Engineering (DE) team within arenaflex’s Data Science & Innovation (DSI) division. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines that power data‑driven products for our media, parks, and streaming businesses. You will work closely with data scientists, product managers, and software engineers to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions, ensuring data quality, reliability, and performance across multi‑environment deployments. This is a full‑time, remote‑first position offering a competitive hourly rate of $27, with opportunities to grow your expertise in cloud data platforms, automation, and modern DevOps practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to gather and document detailed data requirements for new and existing products.
  • Design, develop, and maintain end‑to‑end ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL (Snowflake, PostgreSQL) and Python, ensuring data is accurately transformed and loaded into target warehouses.
  • Implement data validation, profiling, and auditing processes to guarantee data integrity and compliance with internal governance standards.
  • Build and monitor data models, tables, and views that serve as the foundation for analytics, machine‑learning models, and reporting dashboards.
  • Optimize pipeline performance through indexing, partitioning, and efficient query design, reducing latency and cost in cloud environments.
  • Develop and maintain automated workflow orchestration using tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or native Snowflake tasks.
  • Manage code versioning, branching, and release processes using GitLab/GitHub, adhering to CI/CD best practices.
  • Containerize development environments with Docker to ensure consistency across Development, QA, and Production stages.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to knowledge‑sharing sessions within the DE team.
  • Participate in on‑call rotations and incident response, troubleshooting data pipeline failures and implementing preventive measures.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands‑on experience designing, building, and supporting ELT/ETL pipelines in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in Python programming and advanced SQL, with demonstrated experience using Snowflake or PostgreSQL.
  • Solid understanding of relational database design, data modeling, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience working in multi‑environment setups (Dev, QA, Production) and applying DevOps principles for code deployment.
  • Familiarity with source‑control systems (GitLab, GitHub) and automated testing frameworks.
  • Ability to create and maintain automated job schedulers and orchestrators for data workflows.
  • Strong analytical mindset with excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey technical concepts to non‑technical partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large‑scale cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Redshift.
  • Hands‑on experience with AWS services (S3, Lambda, Glue, Redshift) and cloud‑native architecture.
  • Knowledge of container orchestration tools like Kubernetes and familiarity with Docker Compose.
  • Background in building data pipelines for media, entertainment, or streaming domains.
  • Exposure to machine‑learning pipelines and collaboration with data science teams.
  • Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS Certified Data Analytics, SnowPro Core) or DevOps (Docker Certified Associate).

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Acumen: Mastery of SQL, Python, and data pipeline frameworks; ability to write clean, maintainable code.
  • Data Quality Focus: Expertise in data validation, testing, and governance to ensure trustworthy analytics.
  • Automation Mindset: Passion for automating repetitive tasks, building robust CI/CD pipelines, and reducing manual overhead.
