About arenaflex – Pioneering the Future of Retail Technology

arenaflex is a global leader in retail innovation, leveraging cutting‑edge data science, artificial intelligence, and cloud‑native engineering to transform the shopping experience for millions of customers every day. Our mission is to turn massive volumes of raw information into actionable insights that drive smarter decisions, lower costs, and create a more personalized journey for every shopper. As part of the arenaflex Worldwide Tech family, you will join a diverse community of engineers, analysts, security experts, and product visionaries who are reshaping the future of retail at scale.

Why This Role Matters

In today’s hyper‑connected world, data is the lifeblood of every strategic initiative. As a Senior Data Engineer on the Data Ventures team, you will be the architect behind the pipelines that move petabytes of raw data into clean, reliable, and analytics‑ready assets. Your work will empower data scientists, business analysts, and product managers to uncover hidden patterns, predict demand, and deliver experiences that delight customers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Pipeline Design & Implementation: Conceptualize, build, and maintain robust, scalable ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest data from diverse sources (e.g., transactional systems, clickstreams, IoT devices) into data lakes and warehouses.
  • Data Modeling & Architecture: Develop logical and physical data models, including star, snowflake, and data vault schemas, to support both analytical and operational workloads.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Define and enforce data quality rules, lineage tracking, and metadata management to ensure trustworthy data across the organization.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with data scientists, analysts, product owners, and business partners to translate complex business problems into technical solutions.
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor, profile, and tune pipelines for latency, throughput, and cost efficiency on cloud platforms.
  • Code Quality & Testing: Write clean, modular code in Scala, Python, or Java; develop unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests; maintain comprehensive documentation.
  • Automation & Orchestration: Leverage tools such as Airflow, Automic, or Cloud Composer to schedule, orchestrate, and recover from failures automatically.
  • Mentorship & Leadership: Guide junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion best practices in data engineering across the team.
  • Innovation & Continuous Learning: Stay abreast of emerging technologies (e.g., Spark Structured Streaming, Flink, Delta Lake) and propose pilot projects that could deliver strategic advantage.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 5+ years of professional experience designing and operating large‑scale data pipelines in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in Scala, Python, or Java, with a strong emphasis on functional programming paradigms.
  • Deep understanding of distributed computing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or Flink.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure) and services like BigQuery, Dataproc, or Redshift.
  • Solid knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, data warehousing concepts, and data lake architectures.
  • Experience with orchestration tools (Airflow, Automic, Cloud Composer) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to write production‑grade code, implement automated testing, and maintain version control (Git).
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Master’s degree or advanced certifications in data engineering, cloud architecture, or big data analytics.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless computing.
  • Experience with data cataloging tools (e.g., Data Catalog, Amundsen) and data governance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of machine learning pipelines and feature engineering workflows.
  • Exposure to real‑time streaming technologies such as Kafka, Pub/Sub, or Kinesis.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Proven track record of mentoring teams and driving cultural change toward data‑driven decision making.

Core Competencies for Success

  • Problem‑Solving: Ability to dissect complex data challenges, identify root causes, and devise elegant, scalable solutions.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working in cross‑functional teams, building consensus, and influencing stakeholders.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑moving environment where priorities shift and new technologies emerge regularly.
  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to data integrity, reproducibility, and rigorous testing.
  • Customer‑Centric Mindset: Understanding how data initiatives translate into tangible benefits for arenaflex’s customers.
