Senior Real-World Evidence Data Scientist – Clinical Trials & Healthcare Analytics (Remote)

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

About arenaflex

arenaflex is a forward-thinking, technology-driven organization at the intersection of healthcare, clinical research, and advanced data science. Our mission is to improve patient outcomes and transform modern medicine by unlocking the power of real-world data (RWD) and real-world evidence (RWE). Through innovative analytics, cutting-edge platforms, and strategic partnerships with biopharmaceutical companies, research institutions, and healthcare providers, arenaflex is redefining how clinical evidence is generated, interpreted, and applied across the medical research landscape.

As a member of our Scientific Affairs division, you will join a collaborative team of clinicians, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, engineers, and data strategists who are passionate about using data to answer some of the most pressing questions in healthcare. Whether it's identifying unmet patient needs, evaluating treatment effectiveness, or modeling the economic burden of disease, your work will directly shape how life-changing therapies reach the people who need them most.

We are currently seeking a Senior Real-World Evidence Data Scientist to join our fully remote team. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives at the intersection of data engineering, statistical modeling, and healthcare innovation.

Position Overview

The Senior Real-World Evidence Data Scientist will be a key contributor within arenaflex's Scientific Affairs group, reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Data Science. In this role, you will harness advanced analytics and progressive methodologies to produce actionable RWE that supports medical research, biopharmaceutical development, and clinical trial design. You will lead end-to-end data science workflows — from raw data ingestion and harmonization through advanced modeling, visualization, and stakeholder communication — to answer critical business and clinical questions.

This position offers the opportunity to work with massive, diverse healthcare datasets and to apply your expertise in epidemiology, observational research, and machine learning to generate insights that matter. If you are passionate about transforming raw data into meaningful evidence and thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Engineering & Cohort Development: Transform raw, heterogeneous data sets into standardized, analysis-ready patient cohorts sourced from in-house data assets or qualified external systems. Interpret findings and contribute to shaping the broader analytics strategy at arenaflex.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with members of the arenaflex Clinical Trial team to deliver actionable insights drawn from real-world, clinical, and other healthcare data sources. Your analyses will support biopharmaceutical RWE initiatives and medical trial requests, including assessments of unmet medical needs, safety and efficacy of treatments in specific disease states, treatment patterns, healthcare financial burden, and cost-effectiveness modeling.
  • Data Integration & Warehousing: Clean, transform, and structure data into an integrated data lake architecture to enable future analysis and broader team consumption across arenaflex's research portfolio.
  • Advanced Analytics & Statistical Modeling: Perform sophisticated data mining and statistical analyses on RWE/RWD datasets to uncover novel insights about patient populations, treatment outcomes, and disease trajectories.
  • Platform & Capability Development: Support the continuous development of arenaflex's real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities by applying advanced analytical techniques and modern tools to address complex clinical questions from biopharmaceutical partners.
  • Outcomes Research: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies, ensuring scientific rigor and methodological soundness throughout the research lifecycle.
  • Quality & Reproducibility: Ensure all RWE deliverables meet the highest standards of quality, scientific rigor, and interpretability, with clear documentation and reproducible methodologies.
  • Visualization & Reporting: Build intuitive dashboards, analytical tools, and comprehensive reports for both internal stakeholders and external clients, translating complex findings into clear, actionable insights.
  • Data Source Evaluation: Conduct due diligence on prospective real-world data providers, perform RWD quality assessments, and provide data-driven recommendations to inform investment and partnership decisions at arenaflex.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in a quantitative, computational, or related field, with a minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in a quantitative or computational role.
  • At least four (4) years of hands-on experience using R, Python, or SQL for data analysis and modeling.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing robust, reproducible statistical analyses within the context of epidemiology and observational studies using healthcare data.
  • Strong knowledge of common statistical testing methodologies, including generalized linear models, classification and discrimination techniques, decision trees, unsupervised learning methods, time series analysis, and survival analysis.
  • Experience processing and analyzing large-scale data from diverse sources, including claims, EMR, registries, and other healthcare data assets.
  • Familiarity with handling protected patient health information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA and other applicable regulations.
  • Proficiency in at least one business intelligence or data visualization tool such as Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or comparable platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in statistics, biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, systems engineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Deep expertise in EMR/Health IT systems, disease registries, and insurance claims databases.
  • Strong knowledge of medical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies (e.g., ICD-9/10, ReadCode, SNOMED CT).
  • Experience working within Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and/or regulatory compliance frameworks governing real-world evidence studies or clinical trials (e.g., ISO, MDD/MDR, CFR).
  • Experience working with alternative data sources and novel methods of clinical data collection, particularly those enabled by emerging technology platforms and digital health solutions.
  • Advanced experience with experimental design, Bayesian modeling, sequential data analysis, and computational statistics.
  • Solid understanding of statistical and machine learning methodologies, with a demonstrated ability to continuously self-learn emerging technical and non-technical skills.

Essential Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Rigor: A deep commitment to producing scientifically sound, methodologically transparent analyses that withstand peer and regulatory scrutiny.
  • Healthcare Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with the healthcare ecosystem, including clinical workflows, payer dynamics, pharmaceutical research processes, and the regulatory environment.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to translate complex statistical and technical findings into clear, compelling narratives for non-technical audiences, including executives, clinicians, and external partners.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: A proactive, solutions-oriented approach to navigating ambiguous data challenges and delivering timely, high-quality insights.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians, statisticians, engineers, and business stakeholders.
  • Technical Versatility: Comfort working across the full data science stack — from data engineering and warehousing through modeling, visualization, and reporting.
