Human Resources Specialist 1/Trainee (NY HELPS)

The New York State Office of Mental Health is seeking a Human Resources Specialist 1/Trainee as part of the NY HELPS Program. The primary responsibility of this role is to assist with processing reasonable accommodation requests based on disability and/or religious practices or beliefs, while maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and review reasonable accommodation requests
  • Communicate with employees and management teams via email, phone, and teleconference meetings regarding reasonable accommodation requests
  • Communicate with health care providers to clarify medical information or request additional medical information when necessary
  • Draft determinations in response to reasonable accommodation requests
  • Attend meetings with members of Human Resources, program management, and Legal, where you will be expected to present information gathered throughout the reasonable accommodation process
  • Maintain and organize accurate records pertaining to reasonable accommodation requests

Skills

  • Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 or 52.6 transfer
  • Open to the Public: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)*
  • Trainee 1: A bachelor's degree and two years of professional human resources experience
  • Trainee 2: A bachelor's degree and one year of professional human resources experience
  • Full Level: A bachelor's degree and two years of professional human resources experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills
