About Barnstorm Barnstorm is an Emmy and VES-nominated visual effects studio based in Los Angeles, with operations in Vancouver, Montreal, NYC, Atlanta, and London. Who You Are You are a creative and technically skilled visualization artist with a strong cinematic eye and approximately 3–8 + years of experience in previs, postvis, layout, or animation for feature film, episodic TV, game cinematics, or high-end VFX projects. You enjoy working in fast-paced, collaborative production environments and are comfortable translating scripts, storyboards, and creative notes into clear, cinematic previsualization work. You have strong instincts for camera work, staging, timing, and storytelling, and you take pride in producing work that is both creative and production-ready. You are proactive, open to feedback, and comfortable collaborating with Directors, VFX Supervisors, Producers, Editorial, and other departments. You’re also excited about evolving tools and workflows and enjoy working in a space where creativity and technology overlap. What You’ll Do Create high-quality previs and/or postvis sequences that are story-driven and production-ready Work closely with Directors, VFX Supervisors, Production, and Editorial to interpret scripts, storyboards, and concept material Block out scenes, cameras, and performances with a strong focus on cinematic storytelling, composition, and pacing Refine shots based on creative and technical feedback to ensure clarity for downstream departments Collaborate with Layout, Animation, FX, Editorial, and Postvis teams to ensure continuity across the pipeline Help identify potential creative or technical challenges in sequences and offer practical solutions Participate in dailies, reviews, and internal discussions, presenting work clearly and professionally Stay engaged with evolving tools and workflows that support real-time and traditional previs production What You Bring Experience: 3–8+ years in previs, postvis, layout, animation, or cinematics on feature film, episodic TV, game cinematics, or high-end VFX projects Creative Skills: Strong understanding of cinematic storytelling, camera language, shot composition, staging, and timing Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Autodesk Maya Familiarity with real-time engines (Unreal Engine a strong plus) Exposure to motion capture, tracking tools (e.g., PFTrack), or compositing (Nuke) is a plus Understanding of virtual production workflows is a bonus Collaboration: Comfortable working in a team environment and responding to creative feedback in a fast-paced production setting Communication: Clear communicator with the ability to present work in dailies and interpret notes effectively Adaptability: Eager to learn new tools, workflows, and production methods in a constantly evolving VFX environment Nice-to-Haves: Experience with ShotGrid, Maya, Unreal Sequencer, techvis workflows, or game cinematics About This Role This is a remote based role, Open to locations in North-America Note: At this time we are only accepting applications from those artists legally eligible to work in the U.S. or Canada Apply To This Job
