Director, Government Affairs
About the role The Government Affairs & Legislative Lobbyist will lead our efforts to shape and influence state-level policy initiatives that impact our business. This role is responsible for building strategic relationships with policymakers, tracking key legislation, and positioning the company for inclusion on legislative dockets in targeted states. The ideal candidate brings strong lobbying experience, deep government networks, and the ability to translate policy opportunities into meaningful organizational outcomes. What you'll do Develop and execute a multi-state government affairs strategy aligned with company priorities Identify, track, and analyze legislation relevant to our industry Build and maintain strong relationships with state lawmakers, agencies, and key government stakeholders Position the company for participation in legislative discussions, hearings, and working groups Represent the company in meetings, hearings, and state capitol engagements Prepare and/or deliver Legislative presentations Own Government RFP strategy – from finding opportunities to RFP submission Craft clear policy positions, briefs, and talking points in partnership with internal teams Ensure compliance with state and federal lobbying laws and reporting requirements Qualifications 7+ years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, or state legislative work Proven success influencing policy outcomes and advancing legislative priorities Strong network within one or more state legislatures; multi-state lobbying experience preferred Deep understanding of legislative processes, political dynamics, and regulatory environments Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills Ability to travel overnight (35-50%) Key Competencies Strategic thinking with operational excellence Comfort with ambiguity and rapidly changing priorities Discretion and sound judgment in handling confidential information Bias toward action and results-oriented mindset Apply To This Job
