Senior Director Field Medical, Oncology The Senior Director Field Medical, Oncology is accountable for building a high-performance culture within the Field Medical organization. The Senior Director Field Medical ensures execution of the US Medical Affairs Brand Plan, in partnership with the Customer Engagement AVP, Medical Director(s), Area General Manager(s), and other key stakeholders across multiple therapeutic areas within an assigned geography. They manage and coach Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) in the compliant and successful execution of the US Field Medical Affairs strategy, tactics, and initiatives which are directly aligned with the US Medical Affairs Brand Plan, Therapeutic Area strategy, and Area Business Unit strategies. The Senior Director Field Medical is accountable for providing coaching and strategic direction in a cross-functional environment to a team of Field Medical team members within a defined Therapeutic Area. The Senior Director Field Medical understands the specific needs of Healthcare Practitioners and other key stakeholders in Therapeutic Areas and uses that knowledge to support the MSL team in identifying and addressing clinical and business goals in support of improved patient outcomes. The Senior Director Field Medical is an active member of Multiple Therapeutic Areas Leadership Teams and in partnership with Field Excellence, Finance, HR, and other key stakeholders drives appropriate consistency, alignment, harmonization, elevated culture, and ongoing evolution across the entire Field Medical organization YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES More specifically, the Senior Director Field Medical, Oncology, will have core responsibilities including, but not limited to: Leadership Accountable for hiring, coaching, and development of a team of Field MSL’s and other Field Medical team members as appropriate within their area of responsibilities. Accountable for building and sustaining a high performing MSL team in line with Bayer’s performance culture framework and individual role responsibilities. Responsible and accountable for strengthening own leadership and people management skills (i.e., coaching, feedback, courageous conversations, situational leadership) by continuously learning and applying relevant tools and techniques to enhance Field Medical team capability, motivation, and performance. Responsible for ensuring consistency of processes, standards, tools, and communication methods within the Therapeutic Areas with strategic and functional alignment with larger Field Medical direction and guidance. Accountable for consistent execution of performance culture within the area team. The Senior Director Field Medical leads by example for and clearly demonstrate the Bayer LIFE 2.0 Leadership behaviors. Field Medical Strategy Accountable for pull through of the Field Medical components of the US Medical Affairs Brand Plan(s). Accountable for the Field Medical Affairs segment of multiple Therapeutic Area brand planning processes to align and prioritize resources to deliver on goals and strategic imperatives within their geography of responsibilities. In partnership with key stakeholders within their Area Business Unit they analyze field insights & develop strategic recommendations as appropriate and correlate and communicate field insights to key internal stakeholders. Active contribution towards efforts to elevate and evolve Field Medical roles/responsibilities, customer engagement models, impact and value demonstration, educational outreach, and performance of full Field Medical organization. The role will define the Regional TA’s strategy and priorities in collaboration with the cross-functional and HQ team. Coaching & Development Responsible to ensure each Field Medical direct report receives appropriate coaching, feedback, and support to achieve their full potential. Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth and development. Maintain high level of technical and scientific expertise and broad knowledge of clinical and business issues impacting the Bayer business environment and landscape. Active leadership to ensure future staffing, career growth, and team sustainability by developing the talent pool within Field Medical Affairs, in partnership with Therapeutic Area VP, Field Excellence, Senior Director Leadership Teams, and other stakeholders. Collaboration/Strategic Partnerships Strategic collaboration and partnership with Customer Engagement AVP and Area General Manager to support impactful execution of targeted Area Business Unit goals, objectives, and educational opportunities. Strategic collaboration and partnership with key stakeholders within their Area Business Unit to ensure Field Medical imperatives, goals, resources, and activities are aligned and support larger Therapeutic Areas strategic plans and imperatives. Collaboration and strategic partnership with Field Medical Leadership Teams, Operations & Excellence, and other stakeholders to support the goals of holistic Field Medical Affairs organization and to drive appropriate consistency, alignment, standardization, efficiency, and impact. Accountable for developing strategic perspective and strong understanding of assigned Therapeutic Areas and Medical strategies, healthcare landscape (includes healthcare systems, competition, healthcare regulations etc.) to anticipate business and customer/stakeholder needs and develop Field Medical strategy accordingly. Drive accountability of Field Medical Therapeutic Area teams to strategically leverage platforms, systems, omnichannel engagement opportunities, & other capabilities to make data driven decisions. Accountable for reviewing and interpreting full Therapeutic Area team analytics related to Stakeholder engagement and activities to adjust priorities, initiatives, or direction accordingly. Leverage evolving US and Global platforms and systems to ensure data driven approach to customer engagement by Field Medical teams. Drive consistent use of Ways of Working tools, and technology and maximize consistent implementation of updates and new functionality within Therapeutic Area teams, which directly impacts data driven decision making and impact and value communications. WHO YOU ARE Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following: Required Qualifications: Advanced degree in science-related field (PharmD, PhD, MD, MSN); Proven management experience of Field Medical professionals; Demonstrated formal leadership experience; Clear strategic, tactical, and visionary capabilities with the ability to establish, articulate, and pull through vision for Field Medical teams; Demonstrates excellent project management ability. Highly organized with thorough attention to detail ensuring timely follow-through and closure; Proven ability to understand customer segments and market trends; Ability to work in a team environment and build productive work relationships both internally and externally required; Demonstrated ability to articulate vision, lead change, and drive accountability; Track record of successfully partnering and influencing cross-functional stakeholders to develop coherent strategy/ approach or to gain support on key issues, as well as negotiating and influencing key external stakeholders; Demonstrated negotiation and strategic influencing skills; Demonstrated expertise in communicating scientific information; Conveys a strong and deep knowledge of FDA regulations regarding drug promotion, the dissemination of medical and product information is required; Ability to travel >50%. Preferred Qualifications: Minimum 10 years’ experience within a pharmaceutical or medical device company in medical affairs, clinical development, marketing, or sales; 5 years of proven management experience of Field Medical Affairs professionals. Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $248,000 to $372,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
