SQL Server Database Administrator and Engineer
Job Overview We are looking for an experienced Microsoft SQL Database Engineer to help bring an existing database back into a stable, fully functional state while supporting an application rebuild. This is not a simple maintenance role the database contains complex configurations, parameters, and legacy settings that require deep analysis, cleanup, and optimization. You will work alongside development efforts to ensure the database is structured, performant, and aligned with the rebuilt application. We need someone who can diagnose issues quickly, make informed architectural decisions, and execute clean, scalable solutions. Scope of Work
- Analyze current Microsoft SQL database structure and configuration
- Identify and resolve issues with:
- Stored procedures
- Triggers
- Functions
- Indexing and performance bottlenecks
- Review and update:
- Database parameters and settings
- Data integrity constraints
- Relationships and schema design
- Clean up legacy or redundant data structures
- Optimize performance (queries, indexing, execution plans)
- Support application rebuild by:
- Aligning schema with new app requirements
- Assisting developers with database integration
- Ensuring consistency between app logic and DB logic
- Document changes and provide clear recommendations
Key Requirements
- Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016+)
- Deep understanding of:
- Query optimization and execution plans
- Indexing strategies
- Stored procedures and T-SQL
- Experience troubleshooting messy or legacy databases
- Ability to interpret and refactor poorly documented systems
- Experience working alongside application developers during rebuilds
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
Nice to Have
- Experience with app migrations or rebuilds
- Familiarity with .NET or backend systems interacting with SQL Server
- Experience with database versioning / migration tools
- Exposure to cloud environments (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, etc.)
