- About the Opportunity:
The Administrative and Editorial Assistant plays a key role in supporting the editorial leadership and staff of an independent digital media publication focused on democracy-related issues. The position is central to managing projects and scheduling, enabling smooth editorial operations and timely execution of content and events. This role offers insight into the workings of a mission-driven media organization and contributes directly to its strategic goals.
- Responsibilities:
- Maintain scheduling calendar for editorial leadership to align with strategic priorities and breaking news
- Prioritize and track requests from staff and external partners, ensuring timely responses
- Manage daily tasks and weekly priorities for the Editor-in-Chief
- Attend daily virtual meetings and communicate key takeaways and action items
- Support project execution including guest preparation, Zoom meeting management, content uploading, and event planning
- Handle administrative tasks such as travel booking, expense submissions, and timesheets
- Organize team-building events as directed by leadership
- Serve as a thought partner to editorial leaders
- Act as liaison with related organizational staff in coordination with editorial leadership
- Requirements:
- 1-2 years in an administrative role in independent publications, public service, non-profits, advocacy, political campaigns, or similar environments
- Experience supporting senior executives
- Strong time management and prioritization skills
- Ability to manage multiple information streams and shifting priorities in a fast-paced media setting
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Sound judgment and discretion with confidential information
- Clear and concise written communication skills
- Familiarity with civil society groups, think tanks, and elected leaders preferred
- Passion for independent journalism
- Commitment to democracy, election integrity, and rule of law, demonstrated through relevant experience
- Dedication to diversity and inclusivity and ability to work across diverse backgrounds
- Availability for occasional weeknight and weekend work
- Pay Range and Compensation Package:
- Salary range is $55,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience
