Key Responsibilities
As a Bilingual Customer Service Specialist, you'll play a vital role in our text-based helpline, providing empathetic and culturally sensitive support to individuals and families navigating food assistance programs. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Responding to inbound text messages and occasional phone calls from clients seeking assistance with food resources
- Listening attentively to clients' concerns and referring them to suitable food resources with warmth, clarity, and cultural humility
- Collaborating closely with a small, passionate remote team to ensure seamless communication and effective support
- Utilizing your strong communication skills to convey empathy, patience, and understanding in every interaction
What We're Looking For
To excel in this role, you'll need to possess the following essential qualifications and skills:
- Bilingual Proficiency: You must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate effectively in both languages (spoken and written)
- Strong Communication Skills: You'll need to possess excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey empathy, patience, and understanding in every interaction
- Typing Speed: A typing speed of 50+ WPM is required to efficiently manage the high volume of text messages and phone calls
- Reliable Computer and Internet: You'll need a reliable computer, strong internet connection, and a quiet workspace to ensure seamless communication and productivity
- Experience in Customer Service: While not mandatory, experience in customer service, hospitality, or community care is highly desirable
- Location and Availability: You must be located in Maryland, Texas, or Georgia and available to work during Eastern Time hours
Schedule and Availability
As a part-time remote employee, you'll be required to work 16-20 hours per week, with shifts falling between 9am-6pm ET. Primary coverage is needed on Tuesday-Thursday and weekends (Saturday + Sunday), with flexible scheduling to accommodate other weekdays as needed. You'll also be required to attend bi-weekly meetings on Fridays and participate in a weekly meeting on Wednesdays.
