Responsibilities
As a Crisis Counselor Chat Specialist – Part-Time 2nd Shift at arenaflex, you will be responsible for providing real-time, compassionate, non-judgmental crisis support to clients through our online chat service. This will involve:
* Providing empathetic and non-judgmental support to clients in crisis, using a strengths-based approach to empower them to make informed decisions about their lives.
* Documenting each chat contact to ensure quality record keeping and to facilitate effective communication with other team members.
* Dispatching additional client services, such as Mobile Crisis Outreach, when necessary, to ensure that clients receive the support they need in a timely and effective manner.
* Attending initial trainings and all-staff meetings during daytime hours 1-2 times per month to stay up-to-date on best practices and to collaborate with other team members.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications and skills:
* A Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field, plus one year of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in a human service-related field.
* Comfort using basic computer software and basic typing and data entry skills.
* High comfort with computers, with the ability to type quickly and multi-task.
* Excellent writing and grammar skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in writing.
* A private home office to ensure confidentiality and reliable, high-speed internet at home.
Nice-to-Haves
While not required, the following qualifications and skills are highly desirable:
* Experience in crisis services, including working with individuals in crisis and providing support and guidance to help them navigate challenging situations.
* Education or training in trauma-informed care, including understanding the impact of trauma on individuals and communities.
* Experience in strengths-based practices, including using a person-centered approach to empower individuals to make informed decisions about their lives.
* Experience in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques, including using effective communication skills to resolve conflicts and de-escalate tense situations.
* Background in motivational interviewing, including using a non-judgmental and empathetic approach to help individuals explore and resolve ambivalence.
* Knowledge/experience working in the mental health, substance use, and/or problem gambling field, including understanding the complexities of these issues and the importance of providing supportive and non-judgmental care.
