Work Arrangement: Remote What You'll Do: Responsible for designing, building, optimizing, and supporting enterprise-class database platforms. This position focuses primarily on Microsoft SQL Server with growing use of PostgreSQL and MySQL for modern application workloads, and light familiarity with Snowflake to support analytics and data workloads in partnership with engineering teams. The DBA maintains working familiarity with IBM DB2 to support legacy and integrated systems and collaborates with application engineering, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to ensure high availability, data security, and system scalability through automation and sound engineering practices, often mentoring junior team members.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities: Engineer and support Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL or MySQL database environments across development, test, and production. Assist with Snowflake-related support items such as connectivity and integration checks, basic troubleshooting, and triage of query or load issues, escalating to data engineering or platform owners as needed. Design and implement database schemas, indexing strategies, and data access patterns to support application performance and scalability. Perform performance analysis and tuning using execution plans, system metrics, and monitoring tools. Implement and maintain backup, restore, and disaster recovery solutions to meet defined RPO/RTO requirements. Support high-availability and disaster recovery configurations (e.g., SQL Server Always On, PostgreSQL replication) under senior guidance. Develop and maintain automation for database provisioning, configuration, deployments, and routine maintenance. Integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines and release processes. Collaborate with application and data engineering teams to ensure efficient, secure, and maintainable data models and data flows. Implement and maintain database security controls, including roles, permissions, encryption, and auditing. Provide operational and engineering support for IBM DB2, including basic administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Support production database environments and participate in on-call or after-hours support rotations as required. Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents, performance issues, and data integrity problems. Execute database upgrades, patching, and migrations with guidance from senior engineers, Maintain technical documentation for database configurations, standards, and operational procedures.
Qualifications
Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure and database engineering, including 7+ years leading the design, administration, and optimization of Microsoft SQL Server in complex, enterprise-scale environments. Deep expertise in managing and optimizing mission-critical PostgreSQL and MySQL databases in high-availability, production environments, with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, and performance. Proven experience supporting and enabling enterprise data platforms such as Snowflake (or equivalent cloud data solutions), driving operational stability while partnering with data engineering teams on architecture, data pipelines, and performance optimization. Advanced proficiency in database performance tuning, query optimization, and root cause analysis, with a track record of improving system efficiency and reducing latency in large-scale environments. Extensive experience architecting and implementing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions, ensuring business continuity and meeting stringent RTO/RPO objectives. Strong working knowledge of IBM DB2 administration, with the ability to troubleshoot, stabilize, and optimize legacy database systems within hybrid environments. Demonstrated experience managing databases across hybrid, virtualized, and cloud-native infrastructures (e.g., Azure, AWS), including migration, modernization, and cost optimization initiatives. Proven ability to provide technical leadership, mentor junior DBAs, and establish standards, governance, and best practices for database engineering and operations. Technical Skills: Microsoft SQL Server (installation, configuration, maintenance, performance tuning). PostgreSQL (administration, performance tuning, replication basics, and operations). MySQL (administration, performance tuning, replication basics, and operations). Snowflake (light familiarity): understanding of core platform concepts and ability to assist with basic support, integrations, and issue triage. SQL and platform specific query optimization (T SQL, PostgreSQL SQL). Backup, restore, and data protection strategies. Database security and access control. Monitoring and alerting tools. IBM DB2 (basic administration and troubleshooting). Windows and Linux server environments. Automation and scripting (PowerShell, SQL, Bash, or similar) preferred. Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code concepts. What We Offer?
