This high-impact solution accelerates the delivery of benefits to Veterans and their families. #Veteran_First You’ll work as part of a collaborative, agile team using Python and modern AWS services to build microservices, data pipelines, and automation tools that power one of the most meaningful missions in government IT. Work visa sponsorship will not be provided for this position. Responsibilities: Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python (FastAPI, Flask, etc.) deployed in AWS.

  • Develop and operate microservices that integrate with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, S3, SNS/SQS, and CloudWatch.
  • Collaborate with application teams, Platform, and delivery partners to deliver secure, scalable, and cloud-optimized integration solutions.
  • Write and maintain automated unit and integration tests; participate in thorough code reviews.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and containerized deployments using GitLab, Docker, and Kubernetes/ECS.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, contribute technical insights, and provide clear effort estimates.
  • Troubleshoot cloud workloads and optimize services for performance, scalability, and compliance.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). 6–8 years of professional software development experience. 4+ years of hands-on Python development experience. Strong production experience with AWS, including deploying, monitoring, and supporting cloud-based applications. Proficiency with key AWS services, such as: Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, SNS/SQS, IAM Solid understanding of cloud-native design patterns, microservices architecture, and REST API design. Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and Git-based version control. Ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code following secure coding best practices. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with FastAPI, Flask, or Django frameworks. Familiarity with container tools (Docker, ECS) and CI/CD platforms (GitLab CI, Jenkins). Exposure to serverless and event-driven architecture patterns on AWS. Experience with Agile development methodologies (Scrum or Kanban). Knowledge of federal development standards and compliance requirements (e.g., 508, NIST 800-53). This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
