Job Summary Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer, CHOC Foundation, the Associate Vice President, Foundation Marketing and Communications, serves as a key member of the Foundation Leadership Team. This position provides strategic leadership across marketing, communications, and design services in support of the Foundation’s brand, reputation, and audience engagement strategy. The AVP leads the Foundation’s integrated marketing and communications strategy, ensuring alignment across brand strategy, audience development, storytelling, reputation management, digital engagement and community presence. The position works in close partnership with the regional hospital and marketing teams to advance highly coordinated communications across the philanthropic community through all print, online and digital platforms. This position oversees the Marketing, Communications, and Design Services functions that deliver essential services to organizational priorities and Foundation stakeholder engagement efforts. This role is responsible for defining and advancing an audience-first-approach that deepens awareness, trust, and long-term affinity across key stakeholder groups, including donors, patients, families, partners elevating the Foundation’s brand visibility, strengthening public trust and emotional connection to the mission, and positioning philanthropy within the broader Rady Children’s Health enterprise. Pay Range Minimum $115,627 Midpoint $173,451 Maximum $231,254 Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.   • Required: Minimum of ten (10) years of donor relations and communications experience. Minimum of two (2) years of management experience and ability to effectively lead a cohesive team. Minimum two (2) years of experience implementing and managing multi-level donor engagement plans. Education

  • Required: Strategic Marketing & Communications Leadership: Proven ability to develop and lead integrated marketing and communications strategies that drive engagement, elevate brand, and build long-term audience affinity and trust. Healthcare & Philanthropy Expertise: Experience in healthcare communications required; pediatric or healthcare philanthropy and campaign experience strongly preferred. Leadership & Team Development: Demonstrated success building and leading high-performing teams, fostering collaboration, and developing talent across diverse work styles and skill sets. Influence & Collaboration: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence across departments and leadership levels and build strong partnerships internally and externally. Project Management & Operational Excellence: Strong organizational and project management skills, with experience using tools such as Asana or similar platforms to manage workflows and priorities effectively. Data-Informed Decision Making: Comfortable with data and analytics to guide strategy, measure performance, and strengthen audience engagement and communication impact.
  • Preferred: Crisis Communications and Public Relations Expertise: Experience developing and leading crisis communications, media relations and issues management strategies in complex organizational environments, in coordination with enterprise stakeholders. Experience navigating large-scale organizational changes, such as significant re-branding initiatives, mergers, or health system integration. Ability to thoughtfully challenge existing strategies and introduce innovative approaches to marketing and audience engagement and brand building. Experience aligning philanthropy messaging within a broader healthcare system or multi-entity organization. Strong understanding of brand positioning within complex ecosystems, including elevating regional presence and impact. Demonstrated ability to translate organizational priorities into clear goals, systems, and actionable plans that drive results. Experience serving as a spokesperson or working closely with executive leadership on external communications and media management. Licensure
