Field Service Technician – Mechanical

Job Title: Field Service Technician – Mechanical (Gravure / Coating / Laminating) Location: Remote (Must be within 1 hour of a major international airport) Duration: Direct Hire Salary Range: $70K – $80K Base+ Overtime + Travel Pay + Per Diem Industry: (Packaging Industry) Job Description: We are seeking an experienced Field Service Technician with a strong mechanical background to support installation, maintenance, and repair of advanced industrial equipment within the packaging and converting industry. This role is highly travel-intensive (up to 90%) across the U.S. and Canada and requires a hands-on professional who can operate independently while delivering exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate will serve as a front-line technical expert, responsible for troubleshooting complex mechanical and basic electrical issues, performing equipment installations, and ensuring optimal machine performance at customer sites. This position requires strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and a customer-first mindset. Key Responsibilities:

• Perform installation, commissioning, and relocation of industrial machinery at customer sites
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical issues (motors, VFDs, AC/DC systems)
• Conduct preventive maintenance and recommend service improvements to customers
• Provide on-site technical support and training to operators and maintenance teams
• Order and manage parts required for service and repairs
• Document service activities, issues, and resolutions accurately
• Act as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for customers during service engagements
• Travel extensively (up to 90%) to support service operations across North America

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in field service, industrial maintenance, or related roles
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting experience; basic electrical knowledge required
• Experience working with industrial equipment in packaging, converting, printing, or similar industries preferred
• Familiarity with variable frequency drives (VFDs), motors, and AC/DC systems
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Excellent communication and customer-facing abilities
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Technical school or college education in mechanical engineering or related field preferred
• Comfortable with extensive travel and flexible schedules

• Hands-on technician with a strong mix of mechanical expertise and basic electrical skills
• Prior experience supporting OEM equipment or working in a field service capacity
• Comfortable working independently at customer sites with minimal supervision
• Proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues efficiently
• Strong customer service mindset with the ability to build trust and credibility onsite
• Adaptable, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a travel-heavy role
