Tax Preparer & Bookkeeping Specialist
Position Summary We are seeking a highly experienced and self-sufficient Senior Tax Preparer & Bookkeeping Specialist to join our growing Tax Relief firm. The primary focus of this role is end-to-end tax preparation across a wide range of individual and business returns, including complex scenarios involving multiple entities, prior-year filings, and clients with incomplete or disorganized financials. This is not an entry-level or trainable role—we are looking for a seasoned professional with 3–5 years of hands-on experience preparing complex tax returns independently. You should be confident handling any return assigned to you with minimal oversight. Secondarily, this role will support bookkeeping functions using QuickBooks Online to ensure accurate, tax-ready financials.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation (Primary Focus)
- Prepare Complex Tax Returns: Independently prepare and review federal and state tax returns for: Individuals (Form 1040, including Schedule C, D, E), Corporations (Forms 1120, 1120-S), Partnerships (Form 1065)
- Handle High-Complexity Cases: Work on clients with: Multiple entities and income streams, Prior-year unfiled returns, Incomplete or inconsistent financial records
- Ownership & Execution: Manage workload independently with minimal oversight and deliver accurate, timely returns.
Bookkeeping (Secondary Focus)
- QuickBooks Online Management: Maintain and clean client books to ensure tax readiness.
- Forensic & Catch-Up Work: Reconstruct financials from bank statements and source documents.
- Reconciliations & Maintenance: Perform bank/credit card reconciliations and general ledger cleanup.
- Financial Reporting: Produce accurate P&L and Balance Sheet reports to support filings.
- Best Practices: Ensure bookkeeping aligns with tax compliance standards.
Required Skills & Abilities Technical Competencies
- Advanced Tax Expertise: Strong working knowledge of: Individual and business returns (1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065), Entity structures (Schedule C, Partnerships, S-Corps, C-Corps)
- Tax Software (Priority): Drake Tax Software experience is highly preferred and prioritized, Experience with other platforms (Lacerte, ProSeries, UltraTax) is a plus, but secondary
- QuickBooks Online Mastery: Ability to manage, clean up, and maintain books efficiently
- Data Handling: Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills for cleaning large or messy datasets

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 3–5 years of experience preparing complex tax returns (required)
- Proven ability to independently handle business returns (1120, 1120-S, 1065)
- Hands-on experience with Drake is a significant advantage
- Experience in Tax Relief / Resolution is a strong plus
