Staff Software Engineer

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

About the Role

As a Staff Software Engineer at Avra, you will act as a technical cornerstone for our engineering team—setting high standards for architecture, mentorship, and execution. Collaborating closely with founders and cross-functional leadership, you’ll lead the design of our scalable end-to-end platform, influencing the technical direction of our proprietary AI and data pipelines. This high-impact role sits at the crossroads of deep tech and strategic influence, ideal for a leader who makes a mark through both code and guidance.

Responsibilities

Platform Architecture & Leadership: Shape and advance the architecture of our full-stack platform, ensuring it remains scalable, maintainable, and strategically aligned. Technical Vision: Work alongside founders and engineering leaders to establish organizational standards for system design, technology choices, and development practices. Cloud Infrastructure at Scale: Design and manage complex components in our multi-cloud environment (AWS and GCP), prioritizing reliability, observability, and cost effectiveness. Cross-Functional Influence: Serve as the technical link among data engineers, data scientists, ML researchers, and product teams, transforming complex requirements into robust, integrated solutions. Engineering Excellence: Lead the implementation of CI/CD, define testing strategies, set code review standards, and establish performance benchmarks for all teams. Mentorship & Growth: Guide senior and mid-level engineers through mentorship and technical reviews, actively contributing to organizational engineering growth. You Stand Out If You operate fluidly at both architectural and code levels—equally skilled at whiteboarding distributed systems and reviewing code. You have expertise in modern front-end frameworks (React) and backend technologies (Go, Python, Rust) and have led teams deploying these technologies at scale. You possess a strong history of successfully delivering complex, cross-team technical projects from conception to production. You are experienced with cloud-native infrastructure, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and have strong opinions on best practices. You lead with humility and clarity, exerting influence without authority and uplifting those around you. You thrive on deep technological challenges and are driven by building systems that inform enterprise-scale decisions.

Qualifications

Experience: 8+ years in full stack software development, including at least 2 years in a staff-level or comparable technical leadership position. Technical Depth: Mastery of modern web and back-end technologies, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), distributed systems architecture, and CI/CD practices. Architecture Mindset: Proven ability to design scalable systems across team boundaries, large data volumes, and organizational complexity. Leadership: Demonstrated track record of mentoring engineers, aligning teams on technical decisions, and contributing to a positive engineering culture. Communication: Excellent communicator, able to explain complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical team members in a remote, multicultural environment. Why Join Avra? Competitive Compensation: Attractive salary, equity options, and a fully transparent compensation policy. Direct Impact: Collaborate directly with founders to define the technical future of a groundbreaking deep tech startup advancing AI-driven decision-making in Latin America. Challenging Environment: Solve complex, impactful technical challenges and help build the resilient infrastructure that supports major enterprise decisions. Flexible Work Culture: Enjoy a fully remote setup with optional office access in Sao Paulo, unlimited vacation, and comprehensive benefits including a national health plan and generous parental leave. If you’re an experienced engineer eager to lead at the highest level and help redefine large-scale data intelligence, we want to meet you. Apply today to shape the future of Avra. Apply To This Job
