About the Role

We are seeking a Compliance Officer to support and oversee the organisation’s compliance and AML/CTF framework across day-to-day operations, onboarding, cryptocurrency transaction monitoring, and regulatory obligations. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Compliance Officer and be responsible for daily compliance operations, including retail and corporate onboarding, customer due diligence, sanctions screening, ongoing monitoring, cryptocurrency transaction investigations, and regulatory reporting in accordance with AML/CTF obligations and company policies. The role will also support broader compliance governance activities, including policy maintenance, regulatory engagement, internal reporting, and compliance risk assessments. In line with AUSTRAC requirements, the successful candidate must be resident in Australia.

Key Responsibilities

AML/CTF Governance & Oversight Act as the designated AML/CTF Compliance Officer for AUSTRAC regulatory purposes. Maintain and oversee the company’s AML/CTF Program, policies, controls, and procedures. Ensure ongoing compliance with AUSTRAC obligations, including customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, sanctions compliance, suspicious activity reporting, and record-keeping obligations. Provide regular reports and escalations to the Chief Compliance Officer on AML/CTF risks, incidents, and compliance matters. Serve as the primary point of contact for AUSTRAC examinations, requests, audits, and regulatory engagement. Onboarding, Crypto Transaction Monitoring, Name Screening & Ongoing Monitoring Performing KYC (“know your customer”), KYB (“know your business”) checks, and Customer/Enhanced Due Diligence on new and existing clients in line with relevant regulatory and company standards Performing Due Diligence on complex corporate structures such as businesses, companies, trusts, and retirement funds Conducting an in-depth analysis of beneficial ownership structures Identify key risks posed by potential clients, including legal structure, industry sector, customer base, delivery channels, and/or reputation Advise on, and escalate, higher risk relationships and reputation risks arising from CDD and customer screening. Conducting ongoing monitoring, which includes periodic reviews and event trigger reviews of existing clients, and updating data accordingly Utilise Chainalysis and other blockchain analytics platforms to trace virtual asset movements, identify exposure to illicit sources, and support investigations Liaise directly with account executives to collect relevant information/documentation from clients and act as a Point of Reference for KYC-related queries Maintain the Company’s regulatory and compliance documents, which include, amongst other things, the Company’s KYC and AML policies and procedures to ensure they are up-to-date and comply with the Company’s as well as regulatory requirements. Provide full support on all regulatory and compliance matters, including periodic reporting and submissions to the Regulator. Support the drafting of Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs) and other regulatory submissions to AUSTRAC. Other ad hoc matters as and when required, as set out by the Chief Compliance Officer. Position Requirements Mandatory Resident in Australia with full working rights. Minimum 5 years of experience in a compliance role within a regulated financial services, fintech, payments, digital asset, banking, or remittance environment Able to satisfy AUSTRAC “fit and proper person” requirements for appointment, including demonstrating appropriate competence, integrity, honesty, diligence, and sound reputation in accordance with applicable AML/CTF regulatory expectations. Demonstrated experience acting in a compliance role within a regulated financial services, fintech, payments, digital asset, banking, or remittance environment. Strong working knowledge of AUSTRAC AML/CTF obligations, AML/CTF Act and Rules, KYC/CDD requirements, SMR and regulatory reporting obligations, and sanctions compliance frameworks. Experience interacting directly with regulators and auditors. Strong investigation and analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Preferred Skills Experience within cryptocurrency, digital assets, payments, or cross-border financial services. Legal, compliance, audit, or risk qualifications. CAMS, ICA, CFE, or similar professional certifications. Personal Attributes High integrity and sound judgment. Pragmatic and commercially minded approach to compliance. Ability to operate independently and manage competing priorities. Strong stakeholder management and influencing capability.
