Department: ICE | LPSL CPATH Microbiology Staff Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: As a bench technologist in Microbiology, this person is responsible for processing, evaluating patient specimens, performing tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to written procedures and perform susceptibilities. This person will also record and evaluate daily, weekly, and monthly QC in their assigned areas for further review by the supervisor. This position requires one to maintain safe work practices, follow all regulatory requirements and engage supervisor, manager, or director as appropriate. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology or an ASCP approved discipline (30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the Bachelor's). ASCP or equivalent Generalist Clinical Laboratory Scientist certification (CLS), Medical Technologist (MT) certification or Microbiology certification passed within 12 months of hire or 12 months of eligibility. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology. 1 year of clinical laboratory experience. Current ASCP or equivalent certification. Knowledge of Clinical Microbiology testing procedure. Additional Information: Job Requirements: Performs testing of patient samples, interprets, reviews, and prepares patient test results for review by the Supervisor and/or Medical Director. May or may not be trained on all benches, but is progressively increasing in knowledge and experience. Maintains all aspects of QC and QA relevant to the CAP certification standards. Interacts with staff from various departments to coordinate the proper acquisition, testing and reporting of patient test results. Ensures that the supplies used in the testing of patient samples are available in adequate quantities and that they are used efficiently. Assist in employee/student training and employee competency as assigned. Special projects and other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned.
