Key Responsibilities

As an Experienced Customer Sales Associate, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing exceptional customer service and ensuring that every guest has a memorable experience in our stores
  • Offering expert advice and recommendations on pet care products and services to customers
  • Demonstrating a keen awareness of animal handling and adhering to best practices at all times
  • Performing cashiering duties and executing tasks that aid in achieving the store's assigned sales goal
  • Properly managing stock and prices of goods to ensure smooth store operations
  • Heeding established operational guidelines and store regulations, and ensuring adherence to designated procedures
  • Evaluating guest inquiries and referring them to the appropriate staff member, such as the Guest Experience Leader or the Leader on Duty
  • Conducting hourly animal health checks and recording their wellness to ensure the health and happiness of our live animals
  • Interacting with professional contacts via verbal and written communication, with an emphasis on the company's interests
  • Providing helpful and friendly customer service to guests, identifying their specific needs, and offering appropriate product recommendations
  • Employing suggestive selling techniques to boost individual sales and excel in this role
  • Securing an outstanding customer experience for all Omni-channel endeavors, including Instacart, Extended Aisle, and Repeat Delivery
  • Balancing the cash register to ensure accurate cash management
  • Contributing to maintaining order and tidiness by stocking and facing merchandise regularly
  • Registering transactions using the cash register and assisting customers with carry-out service
  • Abiding by loss prevention regulations implemented by the workplace
  • Supporting the store's inventory management by contributing to the loading, unloading, and stocking of merchandise according to established standards
  • Maintaining the health and well-being of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish in the store, and ensuring their living conditions are clean, safe, and secure
  • Executing routine housekeeping tasks to preserve the store's professional and well-maintained appearance
  • Assisting store management in efficiently and accurately completing all necessary paperwork during the store opening and closing period
  • Engaging in the conduct of quarterly and annual physical inventory audits
  • Devoting attention to safety procedures, implementing and enforcing regulations and policies to ensure a clean and healthy environment for all occupants of the store
  • Executing assigned special projects as directed by the team leader

Essential Qualifications

* High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or specialized training in pet care or a related field preferred

  • 1-2 years of retail sales experience, preferably in a pet care or related industry
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with customers, colleagues, and management in a professional and courteous manner
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on delivering exceptional customer service and meeting sales goals
  • Strong knowledge of pet care products and services, with the ability to provide expert advice and recommendations to customers
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for prolonged periods, with the ability to perform physical tasks such as transporting merchandise
  • Basic math skills and accuracy with handling cash and operating a cash register
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
