Wild Oceans prioritizes the conservation of ocean predators such as billfish, swordfish, tunas, and sharks, while maintaining healthy food webs and essential marine habitats. Wild Oceans is seeking a part-time Highly Migratory Species Conservation Coordinator to lead our campaign to protect highly migratory species, specifically billfishes. Role Description This is a part-time contract position. The role involves developing and implementing a campaign to improve management of highly migratory species, specifically billfish, to reduce bycatch, improve stock status and protect spawning grounds. The Conservation Coordinator will:
- Monitor the activities of the fishery management councils, RFMOs and scientific and advisory bodies related to highly migratory species.
- Organize coalition of conservation organization and recreational fishermen advance campaign goals.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
- Engage with decision-makers, scientists and stakeholders and actively participate in key policy events to defend and advance Wild Oceans campaign goals.
- Represent Wild Oceans in meetings.
- Develop fact sheets, blogs, and other materials on Wild Oceans marine fish conservation priorities.
Qualifications
- Experience in marine conservation, fisheries management, or related fields
- Familiarity with US and international fisheries management as well as the decision-making process
- Excellent communication and public outreach skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and independently
