We are seeking an experienced Customer Care Representative to join our team at the UP Derm-Face Skin Center, where you will play a vital role in ensuring an optimal customer service experience for our patients.

Job Summary

The Customer Care Representative will provide a range of front-end customer service, financial, and support activities to ensure an optimal customer service experience for our patients. This role will involve interacting with patients, families, and staff to obtain demographic and insurance information, verifying benefit information, and making patient referrals for financial counseling as required. The successful candidate will also be responsible for scheduling appointments, tests, and ancillary procedures, collecting and documenting patient payments, and balancing cash collection activities daily.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interview patients to obtain demographic and insurance information necessary for medical record identification and bill processing.
  • Input patient registration utilizing practice management software and verify the accuracy of information.
  • Obtain and document information from referring physician's office.
  • Verify benefit information and make patient referrals for financial counseling as required.
  • Review insurance plans for referral and authorization requirements, documenting in the patient care record.
  • Work with payors to obtain referrals and authorizations as indicated by the patient treatment plan.
  • Schedule appointments, tests, and ancillary procedures for patients during registration or check-out and make modifications as required.
  • Collect and document patient payments and balance cash collection activities daily.

Essential Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED and two (2) years of customer service experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of methods and principles for providing customer service.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of patient registration and medical insurance claims and procedures.
  • Verbal communication skills.
  • Interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Organizational and professional skills.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMRs) and practice management software.
  • Experience with patient registration and billing processes.
