Volunteer Council (Board) Member
Solar for Women is a 501c3 non-profit organization seeking 1-3 additional Council (Board) members. Council members are volunteer positions, serving 2 year terms, and must be held by individuals over 18 years of age. Solar for Women’s mission is to empower women and nonbinary individuals in their solar energy careers. We will provide technical training and mentorship opportunities, build community, and advocate for more equitable access to the solar trades for women and non-binary individuals. The organization will lift up the stories of those in our network to help inspire others to become solar technology leaders. Our four areas of focus are: Celebrating, Co-Learning, Connecting, and Change. As a new organization with limited capacity and resources, we are seeking individuals with a passion for our mission who are interested in serving on a “working board” to help build the non-profit and our initial programs in a way that is sustainable and strategic. What we are seeking from council members: Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Network building
- Training, education, and workforce development
- Solar installation
- Advocacy and outreach
- Development
- Workforce research and analysis
We are also interested in finding Council members who can:
- Attend 2-hour meetings monthly, often Friday afternoons or weekday evenings
- Correspond with Riley and other Council Members regularly between meetings
- Complete relevant tasks assigned to you in preparation for meetings or other deadlines
- Assist in management of existing or new working groups, which may involve additional meetings
- Take the lead on a project or initiative that the organization has identified as a need, and carry out necessary work to help move it forward, with support from Riley, volunteers, and other Council members.
Areas of focus in the next year:
- Develop internal accounting processes
- Grant-writing and funding research
- Development of improved outreach materials and content
- Hosting high-impact virtual events
- Development of training materials for virtual/in-person events
- Sharing data from our Research & Analysis working group
If this work interests you, please complete this form by May 31st: https://lnkd.in/g5JBk5yk Note: While we appreciate any interest, those who can only provide strategic guidance or high-level oversight are probably not the best fit at this stage of the organization. If you feel that is the only capacity you can offer, and would like to be involved, you may be interested to serve as an Advisor, which has fewer expectations, and we welcome you to reach out.
