Civil Engineer - Transportation / Local Aid (DOT)
Description GPI is seeking a Civil Engineer / Deputy Project Manager to join our Transportation practice in Newark, New Jersey, supporting NJDOT Local Aid (LPA) and federally funded transportation projects. Responsibilities
- Serve as the Engineer in Responsible Charge for state funded Local Aid (LPA) projects, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and -aid regulations
- Manage projects through design and/or construction, including scope, schedule, budget, and quality control
- Coordinate with NJDOT Local Aid, NJDOT Capital Program Management, municipalities, contractors, and consultants
- Oversee construction inspection, progress reporting, change orders, and pay estimates, as applicable
- Ensure compliance with NJDOT specifications, federal regulations, grant program, and goals
- Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports
- Participate in project meetings, field visits, and coordination with local officials and stakeholders
- Support grant-funded and federally aided transportation, roadway, and bridge improvement projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
- EIT in preferred
- Minimum of 4 years' NJ design and construction management experience
- Experience with NJDOT and/or NJDOT Local Aid (LPA) projects strongly preferred
- Background in transportation design, construction management, or construction inspection
- Working knowledge of federal-aid highway projects, NJDOT and AASHTO standards, and local agency coordination
- Strong communication, organization, and project management skills
- Experience with procedures involving SHPO and NJDEP permits
Requirements
- Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
- Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
- Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails, and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
- Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
