Senior Mechanical Engineer - Continuous Improvement
Description:
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives for the Apollo humanoid robot by identifying and resolving design and manufacturing bottlenecks.
- Perform root cause analysis on system failures, performance issues, and production inefficiencies and implement corrective solutions.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to integrate mechanical improvements across disciplines.
- Optimize mechanical designs for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Design, prototype, and test new components and subsystems to improve robot performance.
- Develop and implement best practices for mechanical assembly, testing, and quality control.
- Document design changes and improvements to support clear communication and knowledge transfer.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; master's degree preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering role with a focus on design for manufacturing and continuous improvement.
- Experience with complex electromechanical systems, particularly in robotics, aerospace, or a similar field.
- Expertise in CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar tools, and FEA simulation.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing processes including CNC machining, 3D printing, and injection molding.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing, including the use of lab equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with humanoid robotics or legged locomotion is a significant plus.
