Temporary Intern

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

ASME helps the global engineering community develop solutions to real world challenges. Founded in 1880 as The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME is a nonprofit professional organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society. ASME codes and standards, publications, conferences, continuing education, and professional development programs provide a foundation for advancing technical knowledge and a safer world. From college students and early-career engineers to project managers, corporate executives, researchers and academic leaders, ASME's members are as diverse as the engineering community itself. ASME is seeking a Social Media Intern (undergraduate or graduate) who is passionate about social media, content creation, and online community building. The Social Media Intern will have the opportunity to assist with various tasks and projects within our Strategic Communications department and gain hands-on experience supporting key functions related to creating engaging content and managing day-to-day audience engagement across our social platforms. Responsibilities include assisting with items such as:

  • Assist in creating social media content, including captions, short-form copy, and visual ideas (graphics, photos, or video concepts)
  • Support the scheduling and publishing of content across social platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok)
  • Assist with community management for the organization’s LinkedIn groups by approving or declining content and membership requests.
  • Monitor and manage social media engagement, including comments, messages, and mentions
  • Conduct light social listening and identify trends, conversations, or opportunities for engagement
  • Support brainstorms and planning for social campaigns and content calendars
  • Ensure content aligns with brand voice, tone, and visual guidelines

To qualify for consideration, candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college or university working toward a degree (Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s) in engineering, communications, marketing, journalism, media, or a related discipline. Position requires working knowledge of social media, digital content, and online culture, proficiency in all Microsoft Office Applications and demonstrated excellence in the following:

  • Verbal and written communication skills and a professional demeanor
  • Analytical skills with a solution-oriented, streamlined approach
  • Organizational skills, detail orientation and ability to prioritize tasks despite competing priorities
  • Ability to work well independently or collaboratively as part of a team
  • Familiarity with major social platforms and best practices
  • Comfortable engaging with audiences in a professional and brand-safe manner
  • Basic knowledge of social media or design tools (e.g., Canva, Sprout, or similar) is a plus

This role is eligible for a remote work arrangement. This is anticipated as a two-month assignment, and the candidate is expected to be available 20 hours per work week. Annual base salary may vary based on geographic location. The New York metro salary range for this position is estimated to be between $20-$22 per hour.
