Emergency Department Medical Coder
Job Description:
- Code emergency department charts, including trauma cases, urgent care visits, and procedural documentation
- Apply coding guidelines to ensure compliance with payer and regulatory standards
- Maintain productivity targets (average 10 charts/hour) and quality scores above 95%
- Communicate with QA teams to resolve discrepancies and improve accuracy
- Keep up-to-date with ED-specific coding changes and best practice
Requirements:
- Active AHIMA or AAPC Certification (CPC, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA) required.
- Minimum of 2 years of emergency department coding experience.
- Proficiency with EPIC and 3M 360 platforms.
- Familiarity with ED workflows, documentation styles, and coding nuance.
- High attention to detail, analytical thinking, and excellent communication.
- Proven ability to meet high-volume productivity goals.
- Experience with remote coding systems and per-chart compensation models.
