Senior C Software Engineer, PHP Monitoring
Instana is looking for a polyglott Senior Software Engineer to work on our PHP monitoring ecosystem. Your day to day work in this role requires solid knowledge of C and Java. Candidates proficient in only one of these languages will be required to pick up the other language. Knowledge about PHP's ecosystem (frameworks and libraries) and ideally PHP internals is highly recommended in order to provide meaningful ideas to the product development. Previous experience about Distributed tracing and APM is a plus, but can be acquired on the job. This is a challenging role with good opportunity for personal growth. Technical responsibilities in this role include
- instrument new libraries and frameworks in the PHP Tracer
- maintain or improve the performance of the PHP tracer and PHP profiler
- extend the capabilities of our own PHP Trace SDK
- maintain our PHP Trace sensor to automatically detect and install our PHP Tracer on systems
- maintain our PHP-FPM and PHP-CGI sensors
- add newly collected data to the frontend
- resolve tickets regarding any of the above
- own the build system
- research and implement actionable PHP issue detection
- contribute your own ideas to expand our PHP monitoring capabilities

- Proven solid professional experience in either C and/or Java (must be willing to pick up both)
- PHP internals knowledge or PHP extension writing (recommended)
- Up-to-date knowledge about PHP's ecosystem, e.g. libraries and frameworks (recommended)
- Knowledge about distributed tracing and APM (optional)
- Good code writing discipline and an eye for code efficiency
- Strong analytical and problem solving thinking
- Understanding of Kanban
- Fluent in written and spoken English
