Department Overview: The Accounting department has financial oversight of accounts receivable, purchasing, monthly financial statement preparation, payroll processing, and internal controls for MDA. The team works closely with all other departments within MDA to ensure timely and accurate financial information is available to those charged with oversight of the organization. Position Overview: The Vice President, Controller will lead and manage the finance and accounting departments by providing information, primarily financial in nature, about all company activities that will assist management and other users in making educated economic decisions about the company's future. The Vice President, Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer partners closely to support financial strategy, planning, and organizational decision-making. Location: This is currently a remote position with occasional travel requirements. Salary: This position's salary range is $160,000 - $170,000. Final offer amounts and levels are determined by multiple factors, including your experience, and may vary from the amounts listed above. Responsibilities: Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of all financial data and reporting. Oversee the development and maintenance of systems to account for financial transactions by establishing and maintaining a chart of accounts. Establish and maintain bookkeeping policies and procedures for the organization. Balance general ledger by preparing a trial balance and reconciling entries. Oversee preparation of client invoices, review accounts receivable to identify collection issues. Oversee recording of cash receipts and make bank deposits. Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance. Conduct a monthly reconciliation of every bank and credit card account. Conduct monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy. Make necessary month-end closing entries. Prepare and deliver monthly financial statements and other schedules as requested by internal stakeholders. Ensure all entries in general ledger are all correct and appropriate. Manage multiple client relationships. Be a proactive liaison with MDA’s external advisors (e.g. tax, CPA, banker, attorney) Specialize in nonprofit accounting, staying current on industry best practices and evolving regulatory and compliance requirements. Prepare Form 990 and other related financial report filings to assure regulatory compliance Prepare, analyze and model MDA’s Charity Navigator Rating Responsible for all Retirement Plan Audits and Form 5500 filings and required reporting Responsible for audit process GAAP F/S, Annual Audited F/S Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology. Review bi-weekly payroll and work with payroll specialist to confirm all personnel changes are properly reflected. Assist with vendor management, including TIN matching. Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team. Perform other duties as assigned from time to time. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration required. Master’s degree preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred. Non-Profit Experience required. 5-10 years of people management experience preferred. Knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles. Candidates must have hands-on working knowledge of accounting software. Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing. Must be able to keep matters strictly confidential. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to approach workload with positive energy and enthusiasm. Must be organized and able to process large amounts of information.
