Our Life Underwriting and Policy Issue department seeks a part-time medical director. This role is responsible for providing medical guidance for risk assessment, underwriting guideline development and medical research evaluation to help ensure sound, evidence‑based underwriting decisions. 

Positions serving territories away from our Headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio, may be fully remote. 

The pay range for this position is $80.00 - $95.00 per hour. Pay is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus based on company and individual performance. 

Be ready to

  • provide expert medical consultation for complex life underwriting referrals
  • identify and interpret medical information relevant to case evaluation
  • assist the chief underwriter with updating medical underwriting guidelines
  • provide support for life and disability claim adjudication as needed
  • develop and deliver medical training for underwriters to enhance medical risk evaluation skills
  • assist underwriting colleagues in applying medical concepts consistently and correctly
  • support underwriting processes through clear interpretation of clinical trends and insurance‑relevant medical considerations
  • present new and emerging medical advances to the underwriters 

Be equipped with

  • strong knowledge of medical literature and ability to apply findings to insurance risks
  • excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • an action‑oriented and efficient approach to decision‑making
  • ability to apply medical concepts accurately within underwriting and life claims contexts
  • proficiency in electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation 

Bring education and experience from

  • an active U.S. medical license
  • a MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
  • five or more years of clinical experience
