Experienced Data Analyst – Retail Merchandising and Analytics

We're seeking an experienced Data Analyst to join our Merchandise Planning Analytics team on a 6-month contract with the opportunity for extension or conversion.
About the Role
The Merchandise Planning Analytics team at arenaflex is responsible for managing reporting, analysis, and tool building for the arenaflex Merchandising team. We support a team of 100+ merchants and 40+ planners to optimize performance of the arenaflex Front End (non-Pharmacy) businesses. As a Data Analyst, you'll play a critical role in analyzing and interpreting large datasets to inform business decisions and drive growth.
Work Environment
As a remote employee, you'll have the flexibility to work from anywhere in the Central Standard Time (CST) zone. Our team is collaborative and communicative, and we use various tools to stay connected and productive. You'll work a standard 8am-5pm schedule with a one-hour lunch break from 12pm-1pm. While we're flexible with our hours, we require a minimum of 30 hours per week to fulfill business needs.
Responsibilities
As a Data Analyst, your key responsibilities will include:
- Own Brand Reporting: Own and manage reporting, recapping, tracking, and analysis for thousands of Own Brand items, including ad-hoc analysis based on business needs.
- Item Level Historical Analysis: Conduct item-level historical analysis and recapping to identify trends and patterns.
- Item Level Future Looking Forecast: Develop item-level future-looking forecasts to inform business decisions.
- Complex Excel Formulas: Utilize complex Excel formulas to synthesize large datasets into meaningful executive recaps.
- System/Tool Used: Work primarily in Excel, with a focus on building analytical models and conducting complex quantitative analysis.
Top Must-Have Skills
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- Bachelor's Degree: A degree in a quantitative field such as analytics, data science, finance, financial analysis, assortment planning, retail, procurement/purchasing, or merchandising.
- 3-5 Years of Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in data analytics or a related field, with a strong understanding of retail merchandising basics, including category management and merchandising organization structures and processes.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, paired with the ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
- Microsoft Excel: Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to use SUM/SUMIFS, Subtotals, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, Macros, and Pivot tables.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication and storytelling skills, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to present complex ideas to executive-level stakeholders.
- Time Management: Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.
- Collaboration: Ability to develop effective working relationships with Merchandising, Planning, Finance, and other stakeholders.
- Adaptability: Ability to work independently and adapt to changing work priorities.
Top Nice-to-Have Skills
While not required, the following skills are highly desirable:
- MBA: A Master's degree in Business Administration or a related field.
- Data Science Experience: Experience with data science tools and techniques, including machine learning and statistical modeling.
- Retail Experience: Experience working in the retail industry, with a focus on merchandising and analytics.
- SQL Coding: Experience with SQL coding and database management.
- Microsoft Access: Experience with Microsoft Access and macro building.
Education/Experience Requirements
To be considered for this role, you'll need:
- 3-5 Years of Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in analytics or data science, with a background in merchandising.
