The Team

Ambulance Tasmania's Secondary Triage Clinicians are a small team consisting of Paramedics and Clinical Nurse Consultants and are an integral team for ensuring that patients receive the right care in the right place at the right time. Working in a dynamic, clinically focused environment, Secondary Triage Clinicians provide expert assessment and advice to callers whose circumstances may not require an emergency ambulance response. Using advanced clinical judgement, you will assess patient needs via telephone, deliver evidence‑based advice, and guide patients to the most appropriate care pathway including primary care, community services, or self‑management support.

The Role

Reporting to the Director - Clinical Services, the Paramedic - Secondary Triage Clinician supports delivery of the Ambulance Tasmania (AT) Secondary Triage Service.

The Paramedic - Secondary Triage Clinician uses advanced clinical skills and knowledge to determines the most appropriate health care pathway for patients to:

  • Determine the most appropriate and efficient service to be delivered.
  • Minimise the risk of incorrect assessment of the presenting health problem/s.
  • Use expert clinical knowledge to triage, refer, and document calls using an approved medical triaging software support system.

You will need

  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal, negotiating and influencing skills to gain acceptance of ideas and the ability to adapt to accommodate constantly changing situations and individuals.
  • Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills and the ability to be clear, concise and accurate when both collecting and conveying complex information.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively identify and apply an advanced level of clinical judgement to respond respectfully and compassionately to the needs of patients, relatives and other stakeholders.

Details of appointment

Multiple Permanent, full time and part time, shift worker positions, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Position Features

Salary: $106,959 to $124,987 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Ambulance Tasmania Agreement 2022.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Holds a Bachelor of Paramedic Science or other approved qualification.
  • Registered with the Paramedicine Board of Australia.

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Hold a current Authority to Practice with Ambulance Tasmania, prior to commencement in the role.
  • Four years post qualification experience as a Paramedic.
  • Experience in triaging patients and/or telephone triage.
  • Emergency Services call taking and/or dispatch.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
  • Competent keyboarding skills – Excel and Word capability.
