988 Crisis Intervention Specialist (Overnight)

Pay: $27.87/hour +$2.00/hour shift differential Schedule: Overnight / Graveyard shifts available (including Thurs–Sat, 8:00 PM–4:00 AM) Location: Fully Remote (Washington, Arizona, Ohio, or Texas residents only) Union: OPEIU Reports to: 988 Clinical Supervisor

The Work That Happens After Midnight - Overnight crisis work is different.

Calls are fewer - but often heavier. Decisions matter more. Support must be steady, thoughtful, and right the first time. If you do your best work when things are quiet but critical, this role was built for you.

As an Overnight 988 Crisis Intervention Specialist, you are not the first voice on the line - you are the clinical anchor behind the scenes. You support Crisis Specialists in real time as they respond to people reaching out through the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline via phone, chat, and text.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

This is a clinical consultation and coaching role with real impact:

  • Provide live clinical guidance to Crisis Specialists during active contacts
  • Support decision-making for high-acuity and complex situations
  • Review and complete clinical documentation, screening guides, and logs with accuracy and timeliness
  • Offer post-contact debriefing and constructive feedback that helps staff grow
  • Step into queue coverage during volume spikes to keep wait times down
  • Support onboarding and skill development for newer staff
  • Participate in trainings, case reviews, and quality improvement work

Who This Role Works Best For

You’ll likely thrive here if you:

  • Prefer overnight schedules and work well with autonomy
  • Stay calm and organized in high-acuity environments
  • Enjoy mentoring and supporting peers - not just direct service
  • Can manage multiple technology platforms at once
  • Value thoughtful documentation and clinical consistency

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or a related field
  • Knowledge of the public mental health system (King County Preferred)
  • Strong verbal, written, and technical skills
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-stakes situations
  • Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC) credential required by the end of the probationary period. Applications must be submitted within 30 days of hire. Crisis Connections will reimburse the cost of obtaining the credential.

Remote Work & Technology

This is a fully remote role and requires:

  • A quiet, confidential workspace
  • Comfort with prolonged sitting/standing and headset use
  • Smartphone with multi-factor authentication capability
  • Reliable high-speed internet (minimum 50 mbps upload/download)

You will regularly engage with emotionally intense material related to suicide, mental health challenges, and crisis situations.

Reasonable accommodations are available in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

If you’re ready to do meaningful clinical work during the hours when it matters most, we’d love to hear from you. Apply To This Job
