Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

Everbridge is a global leader in critical event management. Within Everbridge, the xMatters team builds a cloud platform used by engineering and operations teams to detect incidents and coordinate response when production systems fail.

As a QA Engineer on the xMatters platform, you will work closely with developers, product managers, and other QA engineers to ensure new features are reliable and ready for production. The role involves testing complex distributed systems, improving automation, and helping the team understand where systems might fail before customers do.

You will work with modern engineering tools and approaches including cloud infrastructure, automated testing, and AI assisted development, in a team that values curiosity, collaboration, and practical problem solving.

Everbridge is looking for a Junior Quality Engineer who is passionate about software quality and test automation. In this role, you will work with experienced engineers to build and maintain automated tests using Playwright, help improve test coverage, and ensure our applications deliver reliable experiences for customers. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their QA career who wants to develop strong automation skills and grow into a modern SDET role. What you'll do:
  • Understand how features work and identify how they might fail.
  • Review requirements and user stories to identify gaps, edge cases, and risk areas.
  • Design and execute functional, integration, performance, and reliability tests.
  • Build and maintain automated tests for APIs, services, and user workflows.
  • Work closely with developers to reproduce issues, diagnose problems, and verify fixes.
  • Help the team ship quickly without sacrificing product quality.
  • Improve test automation, testing approaches, and development workflows.
  • Maintain test environments used by engineering and QA.
  • Use modern development tools, including AI assisted tools, to increase testing coverage and efficiency.
  • Review AI generated code or tests to ensure they are correct and actually test meaningful scenarios.
What you'll bring:
  • At least 3 years of experience in software testing or quality engineering.
  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Ruby.
  • Experience writing scripts using tools such as Bash.
  • Comfort working in Linux or Unix environments.
  • Experience designing and executing automated tests.
  • Ability to think critically about systems and identify failure scenarios.
  • Curiosity and willingness to ask questions and dig into how things work.
  • Interest in modern engineering practices including automation, cloud systems, and AI assisted development.
Bonus Points
  • Familiarity with Agile development environments.
  • Testing of distributed systems and microservices architectures.
  • Work with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud or Azure
  • Working with containerized environments such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Integration of automated tests into CI pipelines such as Jenkins or Gitlab.
  • Use of automation frameworks such as Cypress, Selenium, or Rest Assured.
  • Performance and load testing using tools such as k6, Gatling, Locust, or JMeter.
  • Writing SQL queries and validating data across large datasets.
  • Using logs, metrics, and observability tools to diagnose system behavior.
  • Reviewing or validating AI generated code or test automation.

Why Join Everbridge

We pride ourselves on a collaborative, low ego engineering culture. QA, engineering, and product work closely together to solve problems and improve how software is delivered. Quality is treated as a shared responsibility, not something handed off at the end.

Teams are small enough that individual contributions matter. If you improve test automation, identify risks early, or help the team build better testing practices, it has real impact.

If you are curious, enjoy digging into how systems behave, and like working closely with engineers to improve how quality is built into software, you will fit well here.
