[Remote] Claims Specialist, Accident Benefits, Level 1

The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group is a property & casualty mutual insurer focused on providing exceptional service and a human connection in the insurance industry. They are seeking a Claims Specialist Level 1 to review, analyze, evaluate, and negotiate minor to moderate claims related to Accident Benefits, while managing the effective resolution of these claims.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, evaluate and negotiate Accident Benefits claims
• Investigate losses and assign independent adjusters and experts
• Interpret coverage, evaluate claims, and manage reserves and payments
• Communicate with insured’s, brokers, and legal representatives
• Meet expectations on turnaround times for claim handling and resolution
• Support training and mentorship of support staff

Skills

• Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma is required
• Working knowledge of the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule
• Working understanding of benefit entitlement, loss transfer and WSIB issues
• Ability to read and interpret policy wordings including OAP and OPCF endorsements
• Strong computer literacy, proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Internet navigation
• Effective communication skills: verbal, non-verbal and written
• Thorough attention to detail and ability to perform moderate mathematical calculations
• Working towards the CIP designation
