Project Manager – Shopify E-commerce

Position Overview We are seeking a highly experienced, detail-oriented, and proactive Project Manager to lead and oversee complex Shopify-based e-commerce projects from discovery through launch and post-launch optimization. This role requires a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience managing Shopify projects, including custom development, API integrations, Shopify theme customization, embedded app coordination, and full-scale platform migrations. The ideal candidate is technically fluent in the Shopify ecosystem, confident in managing cross-functional teams, comfortable interfacing directly with clients, and capable of driving projects forward without constant oversight. You will serve as the primary liaison between clients and internal teams, ensuring alignment, clarity, accountability, and successful on-time, on-budget delivery.

Key Responsibilities

End-to-End Project Ownership - Lead full lifecycle Shopify projects: discovery, scope definition, planning, execution, QA, launch, and post-launch support. - Manage store builds, custom theme development, API integrations, third-party app implementations, embedded app workflows, and platform migrations (e.g., WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce to Shopify). - Develop detailed project plans, define milestones, allocate resources, and ensure deliverables meet agreed timelines and quality standards. Client Communication & Stakeholder Management - Act as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle. - Conduct regular status calls (weekly/bi-weekly), provide structured updates, and manage expectations proactively. - Translate technical requirements into clear documentation and client-friendly explanations. - Handle scope changes, feedback loops, and conflict resolution professionally. Cross-Functional Team Coordination - Collaborate with developers, designers, SEO specialists, CRO specialists, and other project managers. - Ensure clear task assignment, accountability, and adherence to sprint cycles. - Work closely with development teams on: - Shopify API integrations. - Custom theme builds and Liquid modifications. - Custom app coordination. - Checkout customizations. - Platform migrations and data integrity validation. - Facilitate sprint planning, standups, and retrospective meetings when required. Project Tracking & Risk Management - Create and maintain timelines, budgets, and task boards using tools such as Asana, JIRA, and Slack. - Identify risks early and implement mitigation strategies. - Monitor project health, flag bottlenecks, and escalate issues appropriately. - Ensure projects stay within scope, budget, and timeline constraints. Quality Assurance & Delivery Oversight - Coordinate QA testing prior to launch. - Ensure functionality, integrations, and data migrations meet technical specifications. - Oversee final delivery and post-launch monitoring. - Maintain documentation for internal knowledge sharing and client reference. Required Qualifications - Minimum 5 years of proven experience managing Shopify projects (agency or multi-client environment preferred). - Strong technical understanding of: - Shopify ecosystem and architecture. - Shopify API integrations. - Custom theme development (Liquid knowledge preferred). - Store migrations and data mapping. - Third-party app integrations. - Embedded app workflows (plus). - Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects. - Proficiency in project management tools (Asana, JIRA) and communication platforms (Slack). - Strong documentation and organizational skills. - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to work independently while leading cross-functional teams. - Comfortable operating in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments. Preferred Experience - Experience working in a Shopify-focused agency environment. - Familiarity with Shopify Plus features. - Exposure to CRO, SEO, and performance optimization projects. - Experience managing international e-commerce builds or multi-store setups. - Understanding of e-commerce analytics and performance tracking.
