  • Preferred: Preferred: Doctorate in TESOL, Second Language Acquisition, Multicultural Education, Bilingual Education, Linguistics, or related field.
  • Minimum: Minimum: Master’s degree in one of these fields and 2 areas of exceptional expertise.
  • All instructors must have a valid state teacher certification in elementary or secondary or early childhood or special education and endorsement in ESL or bilingual education AND a minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a birth-grade 3 classroom setting.

Grand Canyon University is in search of an Online Adjunct Instructor who is qualified to instruct the courses listed below. ESL-250: School, Community, and Family Culture "In this course, candidates will explore school, community, and family culture. Emphasis will be placed on the major goals, principles, and concepts of multicultural education, including multiple perspectives in culture, history, and understanding cultural and individual differences in teaching and learning. Research is utilized to investigate the social, community, cultural, and familial contexts that influence learning and development." ESL-365: ELL Assessment "In this course, candidates will explore the principles of evaluating and structuring assessments. Candidates will design rubrics and examine assessments for the purposes of identification, placement, and instructional delivery. Emphasis will be placed on learning ways to integrate assessment procedures into any curriculum, and designing assessment tasks that allow for improved learning." ESL-436N: Methods of Structured English Immersion for Early Childhood Education "In this course, teacher candidates examine the fundamentals of the legal, historical, and educational foundations of Structured English Immersion (SEI) and other instructional programs for English language learners. Theoretical principles of language acquisition and the role of culture in learning are examined. Methods of assessment are identified and analyzed. Teacher candidates identify strategies to promote English language development and improve student achievement. Through Universal Design for Learning they plan, deliver, and evaluate standards-based instruction for English language learners." Responsibilities: Responsibilities include equipping students with the required skill set, facilitating classroom discussions, assessing student performance, and preparing students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession. Other main responsibilities include the following:

  • Facilitate weekly main discussion forums to engage students in the online classroom.
  • Adhere to weekly grading requirements, deadlines, and timeframes.
  • Respond to students’ questions and emails within the established timeframes.
  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.
